  • Rebels wreck Trimble homecoming

    A week after losing on its homecoming night, the Owen County Rebels ruined the evening for Trimble County.
    The Rebels traveled to Bedford Friday night and dismantled Trimble County.
    The 57-6 win may have been just what the team needed as it prepares for the final two district contests.
    “We needed to gain confidence and score some points,” Owen County High School Head Football Coach Adam Fowler said.
    In their previous two games against Bellevue and Walton-Verona, the Owen County offense had scored just 14 points in each.

  • Rebel Ramblings: Carroll County

    • Carroll County is 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in district play. The Panthers had Friday night off with a bye.
    • Speaking of the bye, since 2000 Carroll County is 8-5 after having a week off. Against Owen County the Panthers are 1-1 after the bye week.
    • The Rebels scored 57 points on Friday night against Trimble County. Since 2000, Owen County is 10-0 when they score 40 points or more.
    • The home field has been an advantage in this series the last four years. During that time the two teams have split four games with each winning at home.

  • Soccer tournament time in Owenton

    Home games are always nice but playing in comfortable surroundings is great when it comes to tournament time. The Owen County High School soccer teams have that advantage this week as they host the 31st District soccer tournament.
    The action got underway Tuesday with the boy’s semifinal action. Carroll County took on Henry County while Owen County took on Gallatin County.
    The Rebels beat the Wildcats four times this season by a combined score of 15-2.
    Carroll County defeated Henry County twice during the regular season.

  • Cross country shines at Trimble

    The Owen County High School cross country team went to Trimble County twice last week.
    Hunter Trenary came home from both trips with wins.
    On Oct. 2, the team took part in an NCKC meet at Trimble County Park.
    Trenary finished first in the boys’ race with a time of 18:08.42, nearly a minute ahead of the second-place finisher Christian Apel from Trimble County.
    Cory Hudnall finished fifth while Logan Bitler placed seventh; Keith Stout finished 12th; Evan Lozier, 15th; Mitchell Griffin, 16th; Howy Herring, 18th; and Kyle Lozier 20th.

  • Owen County Youth Soccer League...

    Orange Crush – 4 vs. Team Turtleman – 4
     In a very tight match, both Orange Crush and Team Turtleman displayed all the skills they’ve developed over the course of the season. The outcome was uncertain until the final whistle was blown.

  • Comeback falls short

    Friday night’s Owen County High School football homecoming contest came down to the final seconds and then some.
    After leading 7-0 at halftime, the Rebels found themselves down 21-7 early in the fourth quarter.
    Owen County however refused to quit clawing their way back to 21-14 with 2:28 left to play in the game.
    With the Walton-Verona offense coming on the field, Owen County had three timeouts remained and had to force a three-and-out to have a chance to tie the game. That is exactly what they would get as the defense came up big and forced the punt.

  • Rebel Ramblings: Trimble County

    • Owen County defeated Trimble County 47-6 last season in Owenton.
    • The Rebels will head to Bedford on Friday night riding a three-game winning streak over the Raiders. The last time Owen County lost to Trimble County was on Oct. 31, 2008 in Owenton when the Raiders defeated the Rebels 24-6.
    • Trimble County was in action on Friday night at Eminence. The Warriors defeated the Raiders 40-6. The loss was their fourth in a row after winning their second game of the season.

  • Still perfect: MBMS Rebels stay...

    The Maurice Bowling Middle School Rebels keep doing what they have been doing all season – win.
    The Rebels played two games last week and came away with two more wins. MBMS defeated Trimble County 44-8 and Lexington Christian Academy 38-24 to improve to 8-0 on the season.
    Against the Raiders, the Rebels jumped out to a 22-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
    Patrick Osborne intercepted a pass on the first play of the game and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown to get things rolling.

  • Sports briefs for Oct. 3, 2012


    • The boys golf team competed in the Sixth Region Tournament Sept. 24 at Boone Links Golf Course. As a team the Rebels finished in 12th place. Overall, 20 teams took part. Austin Fitzgerald and Zach Ripy each shot 90. Justin Trusty fired a 101 while Cole Hamilton posted a 103 and Jordan Prather a 108. For the season, Owen County boys team finished with a record of 14-2 overall in matches. The team won the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic and finished second in the conference.


  • Soccer teams ready for district...

    Tournament time has arrived for the Owen County High School soccer teams.  As the 31st District Tournament arrives, both teams have earned the  No. 1 seed.
    The Lady Rebels clinched the top spot by finishing 4-0 this season against district competition.
    The latest win came Sept. 26 against Henry County in New Castle.
    Owen County got a pair of goals from Ashley Byers and another goal from Morgan Walker to pick up the 3-2 win.
    Autumn Gover picked up the win in goal.
    Walker added an assist in the game.
