  • Rebels take down Newport

    The Owen County Rebels’ football team defeated Newport at Patterson Field Thursday to earn their second win of the season. The game, originally scheduled for Friday, was moved up a day as the remnants of Hurricane Harvey were expected to move across Owen County Friday. The game against Newport was originally scheduled as the 2017 homecoming game.

  • Lady Rebels open season at home...

    The Lady Rebels returned to the playing field Aug. 16, winning their season home opener against Shelby County High School.
    The win came after two scrimmage games in Frankfort earlier this month.
    The Lady Rebels began the night with a goal by junior Emma Herdman, who connected with a direct kick off of a dead ball.
    Both freshman Izzy Herdman and junior Destiny Epperson added three goals to the total.
    Late in the second half senior Macie Osborne gave a successful cross pass to Maddi Walker to give the Lady Rebels a goal, finishing with an 8-0 win.

    Bumping, setting and spiking into the new school year has become a norm for Owen County, though there is still room for change as a new season begins. With multiple new coaches and a busy upcoming season, the Owen County Volleyball teams have an interesting season planned for them throughout this school year.

    Life is like a roller coaster. It is full of ups and downs, twists and turns and the anticipation of what waits around the next turn. It also goes by fast.
    I began writing for the News-Herald 10 years ago. I took a camera and a notepad to Eminence High School to watch the Runnin’ Rebels play in the 8th Region All ‘A’ Classic. On January 24, 2007, they would beat Walton-Verona and advance to the championship game. Two nights later the team lost to Gallatin County and thus began my career as a sports reporter.

  • Baseball, softball seasons come...

    The season came to an end last Monday for both the baseball and softball team as both were eliminated from their respective 8th Region Tournaments.
    The softball team played last Monday morning and were knocked out by Collins who defeated the Lady Rebels 4-0. The Lady Titans would eventually go on to win the tournament by defeating Anderson County 6-3 in the championship game. Owen County finished the season with a record of 14-16.
