    •  Senior, golfer Lydia Merrifield competed in the KHSAA State Golf Tournament last week in Bowling Green. On day one on Tuesday, Merrifield shot an 83 to make the cut. On Wednesday, she would fire a 92 and would finish the tournament tied for 48th overall. Sarah Fite from Mason County won the tournament.

  • Bearcats get best of Rebels in...

    The Owen County Rebels saw their two-game winning streak snapped  Friday night at Patterson Field.
    After scoring 64 points last week in a win at Newport, the Rebels were held scoreless in losing their district opener 35-0 to Walton-Verona.
    The Bearcats took the opening kickoff and marched down the field and scored when Mason Smith plunged in from one-yard out to put the visitors on top 7-0. They scored later in the first quarter to push the advantage to 14-0 when Micah Alford scampered in for a ten-yard score.

  • Golf teams attend regional...

    The Owen County golf teams took part in their respective regional tournaments this past week.
    The girls participated in the 6th Region Tournament on Monday at Eagle Creek Country Club. As a team, the Lady Rebels finished in third place overall. It was a great day for Lydia Merrifield who finished in fourth place with a round of 80. With her outstanding play, she earned a berth in the KHSAA State Golf Tournament being played yesterday and today at the Bowling Green Country Club.

  • Cross country teams run well at...

    The Owen County cross country teams headed to Williamstown last week to run in the NKCK meet. Both teams ran well with the Lady Rebels finishing second overall and the Rebels fourth.
    For the Lady Rebels, Allison Bourne was the top finisher as she placed sixth overall. Destiny Goodrich and Autumn Hunter were 11th and 12th while Julie Herrmann was 14th and Lucinda Beach 20th to round out the top five finishers.
    Oralia Olquin was 26th, Jessica Herrmann 32nd, Kailey Cram 36th, Miranda Wilhoite 43rd and Caylin Trenary 44th.

  • Soccer teams salute their seniors

    The Owen County soccer teams recognized their seniors last week.
    On Thursday night, the teams hosted Henry County. The Lady Rebels played first and saluted their four seniors; Hailey Chappell, Kaitlynn Goodrich, Marlee Lathrem and Ashley Willis. Owen County would pick up the 3-0 win in the game. Chappell had a pair of goals and Megan Bruener added another in the victory.

  • Volleyball unbeaten in district

    The Owen County volleyball team wrapped up an undefeated season against 31st District competition last week.
    The team knocked off Carroll County 3-0 at home on Thursday night to finish the regular season 8-0 in district play. The win was their third of the week and improved the Lady Rebels to 19-9 overall. It is the third best record in the 8th Region.

  • Rebel Ramblings

    The Rebels  football team defeated the Raiders 44-0 last season in Owenton.
    Since 2000, Owen County is 10-6 against Trimble County.
    The Raiders are coached by Mike Isley who is in his first season.
    Earlier this season the Raiders snapped a 16-game losing streak by beating Ft. Knox. Since then they have lost four straight.
    Trimble County enters the game having been shutout three times in a row and four times all together on the season.

  • Owen Co. girl’s golf team...

    The Owen County girl’s golf team once again rules the NCKC.
    For the fifth straight year, the Lady Rebels dominated the NCKC Tournament. The team posted a score of 331 which was 29 shots better than Henry County who finished second. The tournament was held at Sugar Bay Golf Course in Warsaw. It was the seventh time in the last eight years the Lady Rebels have won the event.

  • Rebels Rout Wildcats

    Through the first three weeks of the season the Owen County offense struggled to get things working. Last week they put 42 points on the board in winning at home. Then they went on the road to Newport.
    The Rebels found their rhythm on Friday night as they lit up the scoreboard against Newport winning 64-36. It is the most points scored by an Owen County team since they scored 59 points on back-to-back weeks in 2012. In 2007, the Rebels only scored 74 points for the entire season.
