  • I’m just saying ... No redistricting means Thayer will stay in Owen County for now

    It’s what they call a short session at the General Assembly.
    Since the state’s legislature started holding annual meetings instead of every two years, the odd numbered years have been limited to 30 days instead of 90.
    The state faces a lot of problems and 30 days doesn’t seem like a lot of time to address them in any realistic way.

    Felicia D. Bramlett, 1985, probation violation, also owes $2,067 in fines, costs and fees, appointed public attorney.
    Joseph Michael Dorten, 1980, diversion completion, release from diversion.
    James K. Elmore, 1986, probation violation, also owes $1,825 fines and costs, motion to revoke probation, appointed public attorney, hearing set for Jan. 29.
     Dallas G. Goins, 1988, show cause deferred, owes $155 total, remand.

    Nicole Black, 1972, contempt of court, $1,000 unsecured bond, ordered to pay $50 per month on restitution.
    Toni Riner, 1983, flagrant non-support, pleaded not guilty, appointed public attorney, $500 cash bond with surety on balance so long as applied to child support.
    Brian Trusty, 1986, menacing, third-degree criminal trespassing, second-degree fleeing or evading the police, pleaded not guilt, appointed public attorney, continued to Feb. 1.

  • Birth announcement: Paydon and Presley Sandlin

    Donnie Wayne Jr. and Lisa Sandlin are proud to announce the births of their twin daughters, Paydon Tru and Presley Ann Sandlin. Paydon was born at 8:25 a.m., Nov. 26, 2012. She weighed four lbs. 12 ounces and was 18 inches long. Presley was born at 8:27 a.m., Nov. 26, 2012, she weighed five lbs. 7 ounces and was 19 inches long.  Maternal grandparents are Larry and Carole Wright of Beattyville. Their paternal grandparents are Donnie Sr. and Sherry Sandlin of Owenton.  Paydon and Presley are welcome home by lots of loving family and friends.

    Zachary Miles and Mindy Hawkins are proud to announce the birth of their son, Landen Chase Miles. Landen was born Nov. 19, 2012, at the Norton Suburban Women’s Pavilion. He weighed 8 lbs.  4 ounces and was 20 inches long. Landen is the brother of Mariah Hawkins, Rayden Hawkins and Layla Miles. He is the grandson of Nick and Diana Riley, Randy and Kim Williamson and Jeff and Michelle Perry.

  • Kay’s Branch News: It’s a good time to visit sunshine state

    I guess Fay and Bruce had already gone to the barn this morning when I called. It’s not a bad morning to be out. It’s a balmy 48 degrees this morning. This elevator weather has finally gotten me. I started sneezing Saturday and by the time I got home from church I sounded like I had gotten into the sneezing powder. By evening I had a full-blown cold. I have already cancelled dominos for this week. I don’t think I shall be ready for people in close contact by Wednesday.
