    Ministers launch crusade for clean speech in city

    A crusade to abolish the use of unclean speech, by loiterers on the streets of Owenton, was launched this week by Rev. R.A. White, pastor of the Christian church, with the wholehearted support of Rev. A.L. Gillispe of the Baptist church.
    These two ministers appeared before the mayor and council of the city last Monday night at a citizens meeting held in the courthouse. More than 40 residents of the community accompanied them.

    Mrs. K.S. McBee, chairman of the Owen County chapter of the American Red Cross, announced this week that Chester Roland, manager of the Owen County Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation, had been selected as chairman of the Red Cross War Fund again for 1944. The campaign will start March 1.

    Sheep champion takes up stock raising on
    home farm with father

    Buford Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Martin, Long Ridge, was selected as Owen County Sheep Champion by the County 4-H Leaders’ Council. Buford is a member of the New Liberty 4-H Club and has been for the past seven years, during this time winning prizes in the county, district and state shows with his Hampshire sheep.
