Today's Features

  • Since last year I’ve gotten three new podmates at work, all millennials (those born in the 1980s to the early 2000s).
One just turned 30, one just turned 27 and one, at 22, is younger than my favorite denim jacket that I still wear.
I call them my pod kids and they call me their pod mom.
Of the three, the 30-year-old was horrified to learn that she is a millennial. She had me watch a “Millennials in the Workplace” YouTube video that hilariously portrayed her generation as, among other things, always expecting a reward for doing their job.

    Water works
    Oct. 27, 2010

Following two years of construction at the Owen-Franklin County line, residents had the opportunity to take a peek into the newly opened Kentucky American Water treatment plant Friday.
Those who attended were given the chance to take a guided your of the treatment plant and meet with KAW employees during the open house.

  • As an athlete, there is nothing better than the roar of the crowd. Players and coaches love coming on to the court or the field seeing their school colors filling the bleachers.
In an effort to say thank you to those loyal fans, a number of Owen County student-athletes spent Oct. 10 taking part in REBELSoutREACH.
It’s a day for student-athletes to give back to those who support them.

  • “Held for a moment. Loved for a lifetime.”
These words, etched into the tiny white tombstone, had been been pulmetted by the elements and passage of time. Yet, they whispered across the years and told the story of a heart-rendering loss.
A small cast angel lay upon the ground in front of the small marker, its outspread wings somehow giving the impression of a protective covering for its tiny charge.

  • I’ve been having computer problems, so what else is new?
Wanda’s news wasn’t on my computer when I got up last week. I waited as long as I could and wrote the column with what she told me on the phone on Sunday evening. At 10:30 a.m., I checked the computer for emails and there was Wanda’s news.

Doors will open to new water plant
    Oct. 20, 2010

After years of construction and planning, local residents will get a chance to look inside the new water-treatment plant near the Owen/Franklin County line.
Kentucky American Water has announced it will hold an open house Friday for the community to get a peek. The plant, located on U.S. 127, became operational in September after two years construction.

  • In Kentucky, the weather always comes first.
It was 22 degrees Saturday morning, 26 on Sunday and 24 on Monday.
Everywhere else was registering in the low 30s on the TV map. I think my thermometer is just old and gets colder than most, but it works for me.
