Sheriff’s race candidates talk opioids, police presence

The three candidates vying for the office of Owen County’s top-elected law enforcement official met on stage at the Owen County High School Oct. 17, in a political forum held as a community service by The News-Herald and the OCHS Civics Club.

Republican incumbent Mark Bess, former Owen County Judge-Executive, Sheriff and Owenton Mayor Doug West and Independent candidate Kristopher Lang addressed what they believe to be the most critical issues facing law enforcement within the county, including drugs, adequate police presence and school resource officers.
