Monterey Matters: I’ll soon have another title — Nana

-A A +A
By Dana Burke

I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather we have been having. It sure beats that hot weather we were enduring in July. It won’t be long till it’s time to cover the pools up again. I’m not looking forward to that at all. In fact, I’m already dreading it. Although I’m not going to miss having to mow the lawn one bit. It seems like that’s all I have done this summer.
I did forgot to mention in my last article, that while I was gone to Florida in July on my vacation, my good friend and neighbor, Alan Spaeth, came over and mowed for me. It was really nice not having to come home and mow the lawn right away.
Thanks, Allen. I sure appreciate it in a big way. You guys are the best. He and his wife Tonya also looked after Kirby’s dog, Luke, for me. I sure have some great neighbors.
I’ve been thinking a lot about our mom lately. She was right on it whenever she once told me that as we get older “the day” does seem to fly by. Boy, was she right.
I’m learning that she was right on a lot of things lately. I sure miss her and our talks.
As many of you already know by now, I am going to be a “Nana” soon. Kirby and his girlfriend Jade are expecting a baby girl in September.
Although I wasn’t very happy in the beginning, I’m starting to get really excited about this now. I just wished that they would have waited for a little while, but it is what it is. We will get through this just as everyone else does.
They have already had two baby showers and have received a lot of nice things.
It’s another one of those times I really miss my mom. She would have been so proud to have been a great-grandmother.
It’s almost that time again for the Annual Atha Family Reunion.
Jim and Betty Lawrence called me Sunday to ask me to remind everyone of this. The reunion will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Monterey Park. They encourage all to come out and join us. Please bring your favorite dish and stop on by. I’m sure there will be a lot of great food along with some wonderful music. Be sure to bring any extra chairs you may have as well.
Several people have called and e-mailed me to thank me for submitting an article last week. I have promised them and others that I am really going to try to get back into this. So please, by all means, if you have anything you would like to share with us, please send it to me and I will get it out there for you.
I suppose that’s it for this week. Until we meet again, please be safe and please continue to keep all our sick in your thoughts and prayers.
