Butterflies became a significant topic at the Dec. 18 Owen County Board of Education meeting as Owen County High School Social Studies teacher Jenny Urie helped pitch an idea for a butterfly waystation that would be located at the high school.
Urie, along with other teachers and staff from within the district, came up with the idea to create a Monarch butterfly waystation last spring. With butterflies in mind, Urie explained how the waystation will help migrating butterflies gain food and shelter and how students will gain experience in creating and maintaining the waystation.
