Letter to the Editor: Drug prevention coalition hopes to host Faith to Stand event

-A A +A

On April 1, 2017, Champions for a Drug-Free Grant County partnered with the Grant County Drug Task Force to host the first Faith to Stand event at Grant County High School. Members of the Faith sector had had enough of sitting idly by and watching their loved one’s battle drug abuse and addiction and not doing anything about it.
The Faith to Stand event was one of the church community’s initial responses to the call to action. The event was hosted to help bridge resources for the community and provide substance abuse education. Through this event community members were able to voice their opinions, learn the truth about substance abuse and seek help for their friends and family.
Unfortunately, a boundary line is not the only thing Owen County shares with Grant. We too have local friends and family that are fighting the battle of drug misuse and addiction. Grant County churches had the faith to stand up and take the initiative to do something about the drug issue that plagues their county and so should we.
The Owen County Drug Prevention Coalition is wanting to partner with church congregation members to host our own Faith to Stand event. We will be meeting at 6 p.m., Friday, May 5, at the Wild Goose Café in Owenton.
We are kindly asking the community to join us in the planning of the Owen County Faith to Stand event. Ignorance is not bliss when there are people who feel as if they are on the brink of hopelessness. It is time for the church to stand up and lend a helping hand. Do you have the faith to stand?
