The Owen County Lady Rebels readied themselves for this week’s 8th Region All ‘A’ Classic by winning two of three games last week.

Owen County began the week by traveling to Northern Kentucky to take on Lloyd Memorial. It was a tough night for the Lady Rebels as they struggled out of the gate falling behind 35-23 at intermission. Poor shooting from the field sealed their fate as the Lady Juggernauts won 58-48. As a team, Owen County made just 20 of 63 shots for 31.7 percent shooting from the field. They missed all seven of their 3-point attempts.

Alex Clifton led the Lady Rebels with 27 points and 10 rebounds followed by Molly Gamble with 14 points and nine boards. Morgan Ellis finished with four points and Kaylee Miller three.

The Lady Rebels got back into 31st District play on Friday night as they traveled to New Castle to take on Henry County. The game would be the final regular season match up against Owen County for longtime Lady Cats, head coach Todd Gilley.

Playing much of the first half without Clifton or Gamble because of foul trouble, Owen County ended the first half on an 11-3 run to take a 24-11 lead into the half. The home team would not go away but it would be the Lady Rebels holding on in the end to pick up the 48-40 win.

Clifton paced her team with 19 points in the win. Gamble added nine, Miller seven and Ellis five. Destinee Epperson scored five points, Baleigh Young three and Kendra Ashby one.

Owen County returned home on Saturday to take on Kentucky Country Day. The Lady Rebels would race out to a 20-7 lead in the first quarter and never look back as they defeated the Bearcats 56-37. After dropping their first two home games of the season, Owen County has now won three straight in Owenton.

It was once again Clifton leading the way in the win with 23 points. Ellis finished with ten points while Epperson chipped in with eight points. Gamble added six points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Young tossed in six points and Miller three.

On Monday night, the 8th Region All ‘A’ Classic tipped off in Owenton. Owen County took on Trimble County with the winner advancing to the semifinals against Walton-Verona at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The other semifinal game will follow with the championship game slated for a 7 p.m. start time on Friday.

Gallatin County begins the tournament as the defending champions as they defeated Walton-Verona 59-57 in the finals last year. The Lady Rebels are looking for their first title since 2004.
