The highway isn’t the main artery to the Speedway. Most of the traffic coming through Owenton would be people from Lexington and other areas of Kentucky who might not consider stopping for a break so close to the Speedway.
Letter to the editor: Workers' dedication appreciated http://www.owentonnewsherald.com/content/letter-editor-workers-dedication-appreciated
Approximately three weeks ago, we were hit with a severe windstorm that uprooted two large trees in our yard, electric wires were brought down with the trees, with general disarray around our home. Electric service was taken out all-around our area, electric wires across 36 East, disrupting service through our general area.
Owen Electric was soon on the job. Disregarding the thunder and heavy lightning, these mean stayed out in this strong storm until after 1 a.m., at which time our electric was restored.
Other voices: Holy cow – Just shoot him already! http://www.owentonnewsherald.com/content/other-voices-holy-cow-%E2%80%93-just-shoot-him-already
In my 25-plus years of working in the community newspaper business, I often get asked when I’m going to write about my extended family. (Keep in mind it’s usually my family that is doing the asking.)
While I hail from Grant County now, my roots are in Owen County. My mother is Eula Smoot and my father was Buster Baker, both Owen County natives. My Granny Baker lived on Blanton Street, across from “the cheese factory” for many, many years.
Letter to the Editor: Supporting Relay for Life helps neighbors and our community http://www.owentonnewsherald.com/content/letter-editor-supporting-relay-life-helps-neighbors-and-our-community
A Race to the Finish ... but there will be no finish until there is a cure. So we must keep pressing on to finish this war on cancer.
This community has been great over the years to support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
I hope that you will continue to come out and support this event, May 23, at the Itron Field located beside the Owen County Extension Service Building.
The opening ceremony begins at 7 p.m. The luminaria ceremony is at 10 p.m.
Letter to the Editor: Campaigns should focus on issues, not belittling others http://www.owentonnewsherald.com/content/letter-editor-campaigns-should-focus-issues-not-belittling-others
I just received my copy of the News Herald, dated May 7 and want to say I am extremely upset with the tactics that are being used by some candidates.
Why does one have to spread ugly rumors damaging another candidates reputation? I’ve been a voter in Owen County since 1992 and have seen this happen in past elections; needless to say I’m sick of it. Not only does this damage the candidates’ reputation but inquires to check out any frivolous circulating rumors of criminal activity costs taxpayer’s money ... our money.
Letter to the Editor: Leslie Knight will be fair on bench http://www.owentonnewsherald.com/content/letter-editor-leslie-knight-will-be-fair-bench
I have had the pleasure of meeting and spending some time with Leslie Knight, candidate for circuit judge for Carroll, Grant and Owen County. Needless to say, I found her to be a knowledgable, personable and down to earth candidate.
It is my opinion that when she serves on the judge’s bench she will be fair and understanding of the cases presented before her.
Support to elect Leslie Knight as our circuit judge will be appreciated.

Mrs. Glenn (Darlyn) Waldrop
Letter to the Editor: Browning-Wainscott will make strong clerk http://www.owentonnewsherald.com/content/letter-editor-browning-wainscott-will-make-strong-clerk
I am Harold “Shorty” Wainscott and I am the proud grandfather (by marriage) of Marlene Browning-Wainscott. My granddaughter is seeking to serve as our next Owen County Clerk. My wife (Lois) and I have been married for 63 years.
