  • Softball season ends with loss...

    A season that began with a win at Frankfort in March ended with a loss in Carrollton in May.

    The Lady Rebels saw their 2016 season come to a close last Monday night in the semifinals of the 31st District Tournament in Carrollton to the Lady Panthers. Carroll County defeated Owen County 6-1. The loss came exactly a month after the Lady Panthers knocked off the Lady Rebels 10-5 also in Carrollton.

    Henry County would go on to the beat Carroll County 15-2 in the championship game to win their second straight district title.

  • Spaulding earns award at Asbury

    Former Owen County Lady Rebel golfer Julie Spaulding was recently honored for her accomplishments both on and off the golf course at Asbury University.

    The junior finished her season in April with a third-place finish at the KIAC Tournament at Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown. The finish earned her All-Conference honors for the second straight year.

  • Gambrell earns All-HCAC honors...

    LEXINGTON —Shelby Gambrell, a first-year outfielder and graduate of Owen County High School, was named to the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Second Team as part of the champion Transylvania University Pioneers.

    The Pioneers (26-13, 14-2 HCAC) defeated Anderson University 9-5 in the final game of the season to wrap up a 14-2 conference slate and earn the regular season title in a year when the team was picked to finish second to last by a preseason coaches poll.

  • Softball ends regular season...

    The Owen County softball season wrapped up the regular season last week.

    The team finished the year with a pair of home games against Grant County and Williamstown. The Lady Rebels would win both of them.

    The team hosted Grant County last Monday. Owen County got a complete game on the mound from Megan Wilhoite winning 4-2 over the Lady Braves. Blair Harris knocked in two runs and scored one while Kaitlyn Parker scored one and drove in a run. Baileigh Young also scored a pair of runs in the victory.

  • Rebels baseball gears up for...

    The Owen County baseball team has finished the regular season and is ready for the 31st District Tournament and beyond.

    The team played their final two regular season home games of the season last week before wrapping up the year on the road on Saturday in Lexington.

  • Boys take second, girls third at...

    Saturday was a good day for the Owen County track teams at the Region 5A Meet in Lexington. The boys finished second overall and the girls finished third overall. Several members of each team qualified for the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships to be held Saturday morning at the University of Kentucky.

  • OCHS to host Ky. Lions All-Star...

    LEXINGTON – The Bluegrass Sports Commission announced today that the Kentucky Lions All-Star Classic, which annually matches the top Kentucky high school basketball players against the best in Indiana, is hosting two exhibitions the night of Thursday June 9th at 6:30 pm. The Kentucky Girls All-Stars will scrimmage at Elizabethtown High School in Elizabethtown, while the Boys All-Stars will scrimmage at Owen County High School in Owenton. General Admission Tickets are $8 and open to the public.

  • Dunaway, McDonald sign letters...

    The Owen County Rebels and the community celebrated an outstanding season on Thursday night at Floyd Gritton Gymnasium. Part of the festivities included two more members of this year’s squad signing national letters of intent to play basketball next season in college.

  • Pesky raindrops keep falling on...

    Rain has played havoc with the Owen County baseball and softball teams this spring. While the Lady Rebels were not able to get on the field last week, the baseball team was able to play Saturday in Frankfort.

    The Rebels traveled to Frankfort where they played games against Franklin County and Scott County. Against the Flyers, Michael Dunaway tossed six strong innings, striking out nine as the Rebels won 8-3. Dunaway also helped his own cause with a pair of hits in the game. His first hit drove in two runs during the first inning.

  • Lady Rebels win Two Rivers...

    The Owen County track team competed in their final regular season meet on Friday night in Carrollton. They teams took part in the Two Rivers Invitational hosted by Carroll County.

    The Lady Rebels would win the girls meet as they finished ahead of Grant County, Carroll County and Frankfort. Owen County finished with 190 points while the Lady Braves were second with 102 points.
