  • Runnin’ Rebels end season 7-24

    The basketball season is over for the Owen County Rebels.
    The season ended last Wednesday night as the team fell 60-36 to Gallatin County in the semifinals of the 31st District Tournament. The Rebels finished the season 7-24.
    Owen County started the tournament last Monday night by defeating Carroll County 73-60. The Rebels placed five players in double figures led by Nolan Tackett who finished with 21 points. Cameron McAnally and Walker McDonald each scored 13 points. Patrick Osborne added 11 points and Austin Fitzgerald finished with 10 points.

  • Regular season comes to an end...

    The regular season has come and gone for the Owen County boys’ basketball team. The team has struggled this season and finished the season 6-23.
    The boys wrapped up the regular season this week with three games. They closed out the home portion of the schedule on Monday night when they hosted Grant County. The Braves defeated the Rebels by three in Dry Ridge earlier in the season, and they would repeat the feat as they won 49-46 in Owenton.

  • Lady Rebels finish with a win

    The Owen County Lady Rebels closed out the regular season on Friday night at home. The night would begin with a tribute to all the Alumni who have played basketball for the Lady Rebels. It would finish with a blocked shot and an Owen County win.
    The Lady Rebels welcomed Grant County to Owenton on Friday. It would be the final home game of the season for the team and the final of a career for head coach Bob Osborne who is retiring at the end of the season.

  • Regular season drawing to a close

    The regular season is winding down for the Owen County Rebels. 

    The Rebels played three games last week. They were on the road last Tuesday night where they fell 65-43 to North Oldham. The win snapped a four-game losing streak against the Rebels for the Mustangs. Owen County kept things close early before North Oldham pulled away in the second and third quarters. 

  • Lady Rebels up win total by two

    The Lady Rebels picked up two more wins last week to better their win total from last season. 


    It is said that nothing in life comes easy. Don’t tell that to the Owen County Lady Rebels. The team played three games last week winning all three by an average margin of 25 points. 

    The closest of the three contests came Jan. 30 at Woodford County. After leading 27-24 at the half, Owen County outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 18-7 in the third quarter to break the game open. They would go on and win 62-50. 

  • Rebels continue to struggle

    The long season continued for the Owen County Rebels last week as the team dropped three more games. 

    The Rebels began the week by traveling to Independence to take on Simon Kenton. The Pioneers took control of the contest early and would win 78-38. 

  • Rough stretch for Runnin’ Rebels

    Since the calendar turned to 2017 things have not gone well for the Owen County Rebels on the hardwood. The team has won just a single game in the new year and saw their current losing streak expand to five last week.
