  • Track team gets ready for state

    The Owen County track teams took part in the Region 5A Track Meet Saturday. The meet was held at Admiral Stadium in Danville. Both teams performed well and both will be sending members to the Class A State Meet next Saturday in Louisville.

    As a team, the girls finished fourth overall. Danielle Hoop qualified for next week in both the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run. Hoop won the 400-meter dash while Rachel Dauwe finished 10th. Hoop, a sophomore, also won the 800-meter run.

  • Rebels wrap up their season

    The regular season has come to a close for the Owen County baseball team.

    The team played two road games last week.

    The Rebels traveled to take on Frankfort where Owen County banged out 16 hits on their way to a 14-1 win. Matt Harris, Collin Gamble, Jordan Cox, Zach McDonald and Denny O’Toole combined for 11 hits and 13 runs batted in. Brody Layton pitched four scoreless innings to pick up the win.

  • Twelve BMS soccer players honored

    Thursday night was a special night at the Owen County soccer field. The Bowling Middle School Soccer team honored a dozen eighth-graders who were playing their final home game.

    Ashley Byers, Aly Minch, Andi Wash, Morgan Walker, Kaity Smith, Will Dempsey, Adam Hazlett, Jordan Henderson, James Marston Ben Allen, Austin Collins and Devin Ricketts all were recognized with their parents before the start of the game with Good Shepard.

    The Rebels then went out and dropped a 3-1 decision to the visitors.

  • Lady Rebels end regular season...

    The Owen County softball team took part in the 31st District Tournament earlier this week at Henry County.

    Before heading to New Castle, the Lady Rebels had to finish the regular season. They did so by playing three home games.

    The first came May 11 as the team hosted Frankfort. The game against the Lady Panthers was Senior Day for Sarah Bihl.

    She was recognized before the game and then helped the Lady Rebels pick up an 8-0 win. The senior had two hits, drove in three runs and also scored twice. Jensen Wainscott had two hits and scored two runs.

  • Lady Rebels earn split

    The two games played by the Owen County softball team last week could not have been any more different – one was a blowout win while the other was an extra-inning defeat.

    The Lady Rebels opened up the week with a road game at Frankfort. The game was not much of a contest as Owen County scored nine runs in the sixth inning to win the game 14-0.

  • Track teams run well at Walton

    The Owen County track teams should be well acquainted with the track at Walton-Verona. The teams competed in two events at the facility last week. The first came May 7 when they took part in the NCKC Meet and the second Saturday in the Class “A” Meet. In the May 7 NCKC meet, both the boys and the girls finished fourth in the overall team standings.

    For the girls, Melina Bress finished second in the 100-meter dash. Kelsey Johnson finished eighth and Rachel Dauwe 10th in the 100-meter hurdles.

  • Rebels fall in title game

    The schedule has not been easy for the Owen County baseball team. As the season winds down, however, it looks like the degree of difficulty may be paying off.

    After playing two games May 4 and 5, the Rebels entered the NCKC Tournament May 6 at Dunavent Field looking to turn things around.

  • Owen judo finishes third in...

    In their last tournament of the school year, the Owen County Judo Team competed  May 2 at the “Indiana State Judo Championship.” The Indiana Judo Association opens their state championship to players from other states, which allowed Owen County to compete in it. With 54 points, Owen County took the third-place team trophy.

    Eleven Owen County players competed in 18 different divisions and placed as follows:

  • BMS soccer season winds down

    The soccer season for the Bowling Middle School teams is wrapping up.

    The teams played a pair of games last week. The girls’ team hosted Anderson County Home School.

    Katie Smith scored a goal in the first half to put the Rebels on top. They took the lead into the second half before the squad from Anderson County rallied for two goals late in the contest to pick up the win.

    The coed team headed to Frankfort May 7 to play Frankfort Middle School.

    Six different players scored goals as the Rebels picked up a 6-0 victory.

  • Owen County track teams sets...

    The records keep falling this season for the Owen County track teams.

    The teams combined to set three more school records last week at the Grant County All-Comers Meet in Dry Ridge April 28.

    In the girls’ meet, it was Kelsey Johnson who set a school record in the 300-meter hurdles. Her time of 1:00.47 was good enough for 11th place.  Her teammate Melina Bress finished 13th.

    Haley DeCandia set new school record in the high jump. Her jump of 4-4 placed her fourth while Danielle Ransdell finished fifth.
