  • Rebel Ramblings:Western Hills

    • The Wolverines are 0-3 after a 44-20 loss to Grant County Friday night in Frankfort. So far this season, Western Hills has been outscored 156-33.
    • Western Hills is under the direction of Don Miller, who is in his seventh year as head coach. His career record is 28-43. His best season was 2009 when the Wolverines finished 8-4.
    • The Rebels and Wolverines played a shootout last year at Patterson Field. The 32-26 win by the Rebels was the smallest margin of victory for Owen County last season.

  • Sports in brief (boys soccer,...

    • The Owen County High School boy’s soccer team took part in the Rotary Capital City Soccer Classic last week in Frankfort. The team began the week with a 7-2 loss to Western Hills Aug. 21. Carlos Perez had both goals and James Marston had a pair of assists.
    They then dropped a 2-0 decision to Franklin County Aug. 23 before losing 6-1 to Frankfort on Saturday.
    The team will look to get back on track Wednesday as they host Gallatin County in the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic. A win would move them on to play again at home on Saturday at 1 p.m.

    Game 1:
    Owen County Midgets 20 - Gallatin County Midgets 7

    The first quarter of the game saw both teams battle defensively.
    Gallatin scored in the early in the second quarter to take a 7-0 lead.
    Owen County responded with a touchdown by Eli Rice and an extra-point conversion by Kenny Wagers to make it 7-7.
    Owen County got the ball to start the third quarter and Eli Rice took the ball 45 yards for his second touchdown of the day. Eli Myers scored the extra-point conversion to put Owen County up 14-7.

  • MBMS football wins two to begin...

    The Maurice Bowling Middle School football team is off to a 2-0 start to begin the season. The team beat East Oldham in the opener before defeating Henry County last Thursday at Patterson Field.
    Against East Oldham, the Rebels fell behind 8-0 before MBMS answered with a long drive that ended with a short touchdown run by Austin Riggs. Nolan Tackett and Ross Ford connected for the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 8-8.

  • Sports Briefs

    • The girl’s soccer team was in action last week at the Capital City Classic in Frankfort. The team lost to Western Hills, Franklin County and Frankfort. The team will be at home today (Wednesday) as they host Henry County in their first 31st district game. They will travel to Ludlow on Saturday before returning home on Monday for a game with Bryan Station.

  • Rebels claim Owen County...

    Week one was a winning week for the Owen County High School boy’s soccer team.
    The season got started Aug. 14 when the team hosted Simon Kenton.
    The Rebels and Pioneers were tied at 2-2 with 16 minutes left in the game before Simon Kenton scored on a penalty pick. They would make the lead stand up in the game’s closing minutes winning 3-2.
    The Rebels got goals from Austin Collins and Carlos Perez and goalie Ben Allen made 10 saves. James Marston assisted on both goals.

  • Rebel Ramblings: Grant County

    • The Braves are 0-1 after they dropped a 29-14 decision against Rockcastle County on Saturday night. The game was a part of the Thorobred Bowl at Harrison County.
    • The Rebels will be making their fourth straight trip to play the Braves in Dry Ridge. They currently have a two-game winning streak in the series. Owen County won last year’s matchup 20-6.
    • Since 2005, the Rebels are 2-5 against Grant County.
    • Grant County finished last season 3-7 and failed to reach the 5A state playoffs.

  • Division champions

    Owen County third grade girls teamed with Walton-Verona in an AAU basketball  
    league over the summer. On Saturday, the girls won the division championship  defeating a fourth-grade team.   • Owen fall sports season begins

    The 2012 fall sports season is getting underway this week for the Owen County High School.
    The Lady Rebels will begin the volleyball season on Monday at Trimble County. Owen County is hoping for better results against the Lady Raiders than they had in 2011. The two teams met three times last season with Trimble County winning all three matches.
    At the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic, it was Trimble County who ended the longest winning streak in Owen County’s short volleyball history at seven matches in a row.

  • Owen Co. boys squad hits the...

    The Owen County High School boy’s golf team began the 2012 campaign last week.
    The team was on the course July 30 at Sugar Bay where they took on Walton-Verona High School. The match was a good early season test against the team that captured the NCKC and All ‘A” championships a year ago.
    The Bearcats would get the better of the Rebels on this day as they won the match by 10 strokes.
    Zach Ripy led Owen County with a nine-hole total of 40 while Cole Hamilton fired a 42.
