  • Rebels welcome climate change

    The Owen County Rebels are hoping a change of scenery will be just what the team needs to turn things around after a rough last week.
    The Rebels, who are in Florida for the KSA Events Holiday Tournament, suffered a pair of setbacks last week. Both defeats came at the hand of 31st District opponents.

  • Lady Rebels win in New Castle

    After suffering their first loss of the season last Monday night the Lady Rebels bounced back nicely on Friday night at Henry County.
    Owen County began last week at Bellevue on Monday. The Lady Rebels entered the game with a 5-0 record. They got off to a good start as they jumped out to an 11-3 lead midway through the first quarter. The Lady Tigers would respond as they finished the quarter strong to cut the deficit to 16-12 after eight minutes.

    The weather in Cleveland and Chicago may be frightful but knowing your teams won championships this year is so delightful.
    2016 was a good year for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Chicago Cubs, and their fans.
    In June the Cavaliers, led by their homegrown hero, LeBron James rallied to defeat the Golden State Warriors to claim the team’s first NBA Championship. The team that was founded in 1970 had reached the finals twice before but came up short each time.

  • Rebels pull out two tough wins

    After dropping two straight games last week, the Rebels entered this week hoping for better results. Owen County would win two of the three games they played last week. They were, however, not easy as the Rebels would defeat Trimble County on Tuesday night and Williamstown on Saturday by a combined five points.
    On Tuesday night, the Rebels got a career-high 30 points from Nolan Tackett and 14 points from Cameron McAnally to get past Trimble County 69-65. The victory extended the Owen County winning streak to 21 straight wins over the Raiders.

  • Lady Rebels cruise to pair of...

    The Owen County Lady Rebels welcomed a pair of teams to Owenton last week and sent them both back home with decisive defeats.
    The Lady Rebels began the week by hosting Switzerland County last Monday night. After leading by just seven points at halftime, Owen County outscored their opponent 44-9 in the second half to win the game 61-19.
    Defensively the Lady Rebels held the Lady Pacers to just two points in the second quarter and one point in the fourth quarter.

  • Rebels win season opener against...

    The Owen County Rebels opened up the season at home on Tuesday night the same way they have opened up the five previous seasons. They played and defeated Western Hills.
    The Rebels welcomed the Wolverines to Owenton and proved to be ungracious hosts as they sent them back to Frankfort with a 68-48 loss. An Austin Fitzgerald three-pointer just ahead of the halftime buzzer gave Owen County a 24-21 lead heading into the locker room.

  • Lady Rebels 3-0 to start season

    The Owen County Lady Rebels are 3-0 to start the season. It is the first time since 2012 the team has begun by winning their first three games.
    The Lady Rebels opened the season last Monday on the road at Eminence. Behind 25 points and 12 rebounds from Alex Clifton, the team rolled to a 63-38 win over the Lady Warriors. It is the third straight season Owen County has opened the season against Eminence and won.
    Molly Gamble chipped in with 17 points and six rebounds while Haley Young added eight points and Destiny Young five points.

    A new basketball season will tip-off in Owenton on Tuesday night. The Rebels open up the 2016-2017 campaign against Eminence.
    Owen County is coming off a historic season that saw the Rebels finish 29-4. They won their second straight 8th Region All ‘A’ Classic and advanced to the semifinals of the State Tournament. The Rebels captured their fifth straight 31st District title before being knocked out of the 8th Region Tournament by the eventual champion South Oldham.

    The Owen County Lady Rebels enter the 2016-2017 season in a position they have not been in since 2012. They will begin the new campaign as the defending 31st District champs.
    The Lady Rebels start the new season on Monday night on the road at Eminence. They will be at home for the first time on Dec. 1 against Williamstown.
