  • Rebels keep at home unbeaten...

There is no place like home and for the Owen County High School Rebels, nothing has been truer this season.
Owen County hosted a pair of games this week and won both of them to improve to a perfect 5-0 on their home court.
The first came on Feb. 6 as the team welcomed Walton-Verona to Owenton. The game had a different feel to it due to an electrical problem that caused the scoreboards not to work. As a result, the score and the time were both kept at the scorer’s table by hand.

  • Bad luck streak continues for...

If not for bad luck, the Owen County High School Lady Rebels would have no luck at all.
The team hosted Oldham County Friday night in Owenton.
After falling behind early, the Lady Rebels rallied to cut the deficit to 14-7 with just seconds left in the opening quarter.
Instead of carrying some positive feelings into the second quarter it proved to be just enough time for the Lady Colonels. Oldham County caught the inbounds pass and launched a heave from 70 feet at the buzzer that hit nothing but net to push the lead to 17-7.

  • Hard-fought victory: Rebels win...

The Owen County High School boy’s basketball team should be very familiar with the gym at Eminence High School.
The Rebels traveled to Eminence for the fourth time in a week Jan. 29.
They were going to take on the Warriors but also to try and erase the memory of their previous game two nights before.
It was against Carroll County in Eminence where the Rebels saw their dream of winning three-straight Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic titles end.

  • Lady Rebels foiled in the fourth...

With eight minutes to go. a win was within reach.

The Lady Panthers got the best of the Lady Rebels in Carrollton on Dec. 13 winning 57-37. It appeared for three quarters on Friday that Owen County might return the favor in Owenton.
Owen County played hard for the first three quarters but trailed 37-35 as the fourth quarter began.

  • Three-peat bid falls short

The Owen County High School Rebels began Monday night’s All ‘A’ championship game with a 3-point basket.
The game would end with the team needing one more.
Carroll County High School used a stingy zone defense and a patient offense to grind out a 42-39 win over Owen County to deny the Rebels a third straight Eighth Region All ‘A’ title.
The Panthers will advance to Frankfort Thursday night to take on Cordia High School of Hazard in the first round of the Touchstone Energy All ‘A’ Classic.

  • Sophomore superlative: Williams...

The Owen County High School Rebels picked up a district win on Thursday night against Eminence High School.
In the process, Carson Williams made history.
Near the end of the third quarter of the Rebels’ 57-44 victory, Williams made a free throw to give him his 16th point of the game. The shot also gave him the 1,000th point of his career which made him the youngest player in OCHS history to reach that mark.
“It feels good,” Williams said. “My brother (Sawyer) got it and my sister (Kelsey) got it and it is nice to join them.”

  • Girls make early exit from All ‘...

When the brackets for the 2015 Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic come out, there is one team the Owen County High School girls basketball team will not want to see on their half of the draw - the Walton-Verona High School Lady Bearcats.
On Jan. 14, the two teams met for the fifth-straight year in the tournament. They squared off in the quarterfinals at Carroll County.
After holding a slim 5-2 lead after the first quarter, the Lady Bearcats took control in the second quarter and raced out to a 25-10 lead at halftime.
