  • District opener preview

    Opponent: DeSales Colts

    Place: DuPont Manual High School

    Time: 7:30 p.m.

    • After starting the season 3-1, the Colts have lost their last two games to Seneca and Fern Creek.

    • DeSales enter the game with a high-powered offense. In the six games the Colts have played this season ,they are averaging just over 31 points a game.

    • The Rebels are 0-3 against DeSales. They lost twice to the Colts in 2007 and once in 2008.

  • Bourbon Co. runs past Owen

    The Rebels knew what they had to do going into Friday night’s game with Bourbon County. They had to figure out a way to shut down Taylor Barnes and the Colonels’ running game. Unfortunately, accomplishing that feat was easier said than done.

    As a team, the Colonels ran the ball 56 times for a total of 363 yards.

    Barnes ran 34 times for 295 yards and scored four times as Bourbon County defeated Owen County in the rain and fog, 28-7.

  • Cross country team hosts race

    Sept. 22 was a busy day at Owen County High School. The Rebel Cross Country team hosted a NCKC meet that saw seven teams make the trip to Owenton.

    Owen County freshman Julie Spaulding finished sixth in the varsity race. Three other freshmen, Haley DeCandia, Michelle Goderwis and Megan Barnes finished 14th, 15th and 16th. Amber Gover, a sixth-grader, placed eighth in the junior varsity race. 

    The team traveled to Lexington Saturday to run in the Franklin County Invitational.

  • Middle school pulls out win...

    It went down to the wire Sept. 22 for the BMS football team against Carroll County. 

    The game was scoreless for the first 31 minutes. Both defenses were able to keep the offense in check. That is until the Rebels got the ball back late in the fourth quarter.

  • Friday Night Football Preview

    Homecoming Opponent: East Jessamine Jaguars

    Place: Patterson Field

    Time: 7:30 p.m.

    • East Jessamine is coached by Mike Bowlin. The school is located in Nicholasville.

    • The Jaguars come into Friday night’s game after dropping an 8-0 decision to Western Hills at home. The win dropped them to 2-3 on the season.

    • East Jessamine entered last Friday’s game averaging 31 points a game before being shutout by Western Hills.

    High School volleyball

    • The Owen County High School volleyball team dropped its only match last week to Cooper. The team is scheduled to play at Williamstown tonight and in the Carroll County Invitational Saturday.

  • Rebels bust out in home opener

    It had been 341 days since Owen County’s last home football victory. That win came against Atherton and their head coach Chris Collins.

    Friday night, Collins brought his new team – Trimble County – to Patterson Field for a match-up with the Rebels.

    He again left disappointed as the Rebels used a 16-point second quarter to take control of the game and eventually won 30-14. The victory evened the Owen County record at 2-2.

    The Rebels came into the game looking to break a three-game losing streak to the Raiders.

  • Friday Night preview

    Opponent: Bourbon County Colonels

    Place: Paris

    Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

    • The Colonels are coached by Johnny Poynter. He should be familiar with the Rebels. Poynter came to Bourbon County from Trimble County.

    • Bourbon County has been on the mountain top. The Colonels defeated Owensboro Catholic 39-28 to capture the 1997 2A State Championship. Bourbon competes in 4A.

  • Freshman volleyball and JV golf...

    It’s sometimes easy to forget about the freshman and junior varsity teams. They work just hard as the varsity but often don’t get the recognition. Two of those teams turned in very good weekends.

    The Owen County High School freshman volleyball team traveled to Southern High School over the weekend and came home with a new, shiny trophy. The girls defeated Southern, Bullitt Central and Iriquois high schools to win the title.

    Haley DeCandia, Lizzy Anderson and Olivia Karsner were named to the all-tournament team.

  • Owen County Youth Football...

    The Owen County Parks & Recreation youth competitive football teams recently completed games against Pendleton County and Grant County. The Mighty Pro and Power House teams both came away victorious against both rivals, while the Midget team suffered losses in both of their contests. The following is a recap of the action:

    Midget Division

    Pendleton Co. – 27

    Owen County – 0

    The Panthers jumped on the young Rebels from the opening play and never looked back to capture the victory.
