  • Lady Rebels capture fifth-...

    Winning never gets old. Just ask the Owen County High School Lady Rebels.
    Owen County High School captured its fifth-consecutive 31st District Championship on Friday night as they dominated Gallatin County High School from the opening tip in cruising to a 61-38 victory.
    The Lady Rebels were never challenged as they used pressure defense and a well-run offense to jump out to a 36-13 at halftime.

  • Owen County boys celebrate...

    Defense wins championships and it is nice when those championships come against your rivals.
    Owen County High School’s defensive effort against Gallatin County High School Saturday night in the 31st District championship game allowed the Rebels to raise the trophy and cut down the nets.
    The 67-58 win gave the Rebels their first 31st District title since 2009 and gave them four straight wins over their rivals from Warsaw.
    Owen County Junior Justin Shelton said beating Gallatin County to win the district makes the night even sweeter.

  • Showing support

    First Farmers Bank made its annual donation to the Owen County High School basketball program as part of its 3-Point Challenge. The bank made a donation for each successful 3-point shot the boys and girls varsity teams made during the regular season.   • Lady Rebels gear up for...

    Tournament time has arrived for the Owen County Lady Rebels. While the team has some lofty goals for the next two weeks, they still had some work to do to get ready.
    Owen County was in action twice last week to close out the regular season. The girls spent Feb. 13 at Anderson County before coming home for Senior Night on Friday against Grant County.
    The game against the Lady Bearcats in Lawrenceburg did not go as planned as the Lady Rebels got off to a slow start and fell 61-46.

  • Girl’s 31st District Preview

    • Owen County will enter this year’s tournament as the four-time defending district champs. The Lady Rebels defeated Gallatin County 58-47 in the championship game last season at Henry County.
    • The last time someone other than Owen County won the 31st District was in 2007 when Carroll County defeated Owen County 42-41 in the finals at Henry County.
    • The last someone other than Owen County or Carroll County won the 31st District was 2004 when South Oldham claimed the title.

  • Boy’s 31st District Preview

    • Henry County will enter this year’s tournament as the defending champs. The Wildcats defeated Gallatin County 67-61 last year in New Castle.
    • The last time the tournament was held in Owenton was 2008. That season saw Gallatin County and Owen County advance to the finals. The Wildcats defeated the Rebels 53-43 to claim the championship.
    • Owen County last won the 31st District in 2009. The Rebels knocked off Henry County in Carrollton to cut down down the nets.

  • Rebels ready for a run

    The regular season is over.
    The Rebels wrapped up it up last week. Owen County ended the campaign by knocking off Walton-Verona at home and falling to Oldham County on the road.
    The team finished the season by becoming just the third team in program history to win at least 20 games. Owen County finished 20-10.
    They also won 20 games in 1996 and 2007.
