  • Owen County plays host for...

    The Class A Region 5 Track Meet was held last week in Owenton.
    As a team, the girls finished eighth and the boys finished fifth. As a result of several outstanding performances, the Rebels will be well represented this week at the KHSAA Class A State Track Meet.

  • MBMS coach pleased with team’s...

    Wrapping up his first year as a soccer coach for the Maurice Bowling Middle School boys soccer team, Derrick E. Clemons said he is encouraged with the progress the squad made since the start of the season.
    “We finished the year with four wins, three loses and two ties. We started off with two wins in a row and feeling good about ourselves”
    The team lost its first game of the season to Good Shepherd and followed it up with a tie with Frankfort and another tie with Grant County.

  • Rebels on a roll

    The Owen County baseball team entered the final week of the regular season having already doubled their win total from last season.
    The team was hoping to finish the regular season on a positive note when they hosted Eminence Thursday and Villa Madonna Friday.
    The Rebels did indeed finish strong as they defeated Eminence, 10-0 on the strength of a no-hitter by Freshman Jarrod Ball and then beat Villa Madonna, 11-4.

  • Lady Rebels end regular season...

    A week that began in the rain ended in the glow of sunshine and a win.
    The Owen County softball team opened up last week by taking on Grant County at home. The game was played in less than desirable conditions — it was raining and cold. Not only were spirits dampened by the weather but also by the outcome of the game, for the Lady Braves defeated the Lady Rebels, 8-4.
    The team bounced back Thursday night when they traveled to Frankfort and defeated the Lady Panthers, 14-0.

  • Youth soccer league begins to...

    Wildcats – 7 vs. Team Dynamite – 3
     
    The Wildcats began the match sluggishly and found themselves behind on goals early in the match.
    Caden Hedger rose to the challenge and powered home a goal, which helped get the Wildcats on the board.
    Caleb Dye scored a goal in the second quarter and Cody Anderson powered home a goal late in the second quarter.
    At the half, the score was tied at three goals apiece.

  • Lady Rebels roll through week

    The Owen County High School softball team was busy last week. Starting Tuesday of last week, the Lady Rebels played four games in four days.
    After dropping a 2-1 decision to Holmes, the team bounced back to win the final three games. On Wednesday, the Lady Rebels defeated Shelby County, 9-2. They continued the theme of scoring nine runs during the next two games as well. The Lady Rebels knocked off Frankfort Thursday, 9-1, and Eminence Friday by the same score, 9-1.
    The wins improve Owen County to 13-11 on the season.

  • Rebels drop pair on the diamond

    The Owen County High School baseball team had a tough week. The team played twice, dropping both contests. The team lost to Grant County, 11-1, and Trimble County, 3-1.
    The lone run in the Grant County game came on a homerun by Travis Hearne. For Hearne, it was his first long ball of the season. The loss to Trimble County came in the NCKC Tournament.
    The Rebels will wrap up the regular season this week with a pair of home games. Owen County will host Eminence Thursday and Villa Madonna Friday.
     

  • Owen County teams get back on...

    The Owen County track team did something last week they had not done for a long time. The teams hosted the Owen County All-Comers Meet. The track was refurbished during the past year, which allowed the Owen teams to host a meet this year. The new surface on the track also allowed Owen County to host the regional track meet yesterday.
    Three other schools were represented last week for the first meet. The Lady Rebels took on Trimble County, Williamstown and Frankfort. Several individuals put in solid performances.

    Playing in the rain, Team Dynamite finished on top, defeating Dynamo. Scoring was evenly spread among Jackson Spurgeon, Tori Lykins and Charlie Bauman.

  • Owen runs strong at NCKC meet

    The Owen County track team took part in the NCKC Conference Championships May 3 at Henry County. The team had several outstanding performances on both the boys and girls team.
    Danielle Hoop won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.14 and the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:26.00. She also finished third in the 800-meter run. Haley Decandia finished third in the high jump.
