  • Rebel tricks don’t pay...

    Oh, so close.

    That was the feeling of Owen County High School Head  Football Coach Adam Fowler,  and just about anyone else who watched the final home game of the season Friday night.

    South Oldham defeated Owen County 21-14 on Senior Night. Three big plays for the Dragons and two costly turnovers for the Rebels were the difference in the game.

    The visitors got on the board first when Christian Wallace hooked up with Cody Kollenberg for a 34-yard touchdown pass late in the first quarter. Following the extra point, the Dragons led 7-0.

  • Rebel athletes also find success...

    As a soccer player you are often required to use your head. For the soccer teams at Owen County High School, they can use their heads both on and off the field.

    The boys under the direction of Jerry Doolin have once again been recognized for academic success by the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association. The team, along with seven other schools across the state, was honored for having a team grade point average of 3.25 or better.

  • Centurians slide past rebels

    It was a difficult week for the Owen County Rebels. While the school system was being hit hard by the H1N1 virus, the football team was no exception.

    On Friday before the Rebels set off for the game at Christian Academy of Louisville, Owen County Head Football Coach Adam Fowler said the sickness had taken its toll on the team.

    “The most we had in practice all week was 31 out of a 50-man roster,” Fowler said.

    On top of the sickness, the team also lost two players for the season.

  • Owen County Youth Rebels...

    The Owen County Youth football teams traveled to Walton last weekend to battle the Bearcats in the last games of the regular season. Both the Mighty Pro and Power House teams came away with victories. The wins left both teams undefeated in the regular season and gave them the No. 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs.

    Midget Division

    Walton – 21

    Owen County – 0

    The young Rebels were down 14-0 at the half and battled to only give up one score in the second half. Ethan Fitzgerald had a fumble recovery for the Rebels.

  • Senior Night Preview

    Opponent: South Oldham Dragons

    Place: Patterson Field

    Time: 7:30 p.m.

    • The Dragons will enter the game with a record of 2-7 on the season. They dropped the last game they played 29-19 at Anderson County two weeks ago. South Oldham was on a bye last week.

    • It has been a streaky season for South Oldham in 2009. Each of the Dragons two wins this season came after a three-game losing streak. The last win came Oct. 9 at home against Grant County.

  • Squad ends exciting season

    They may not have won the match Oct. 13 but the night showed just how far the program has come.

    The Lady Rebels entered the 30th District semifinal match against Williamstown with nothing to lose. The team had already accomplished something by just being in the game. The appearance meant the Lady Rebels had won their opening round match with Gallatin County. It was their first ever win in the district tournament.

  • District Showdown Preview

    Opponent: Christian Academy of Louisville Centurions

    Time: 7:30 p.m.

    Place: Centurion Stadium in Louisville

    • CAL is 6-2 on the season. The Centurions had a four-game winning streak snapped Friday night as they dropped a 27-6 decision to DeSales.

    • The Rebels will be looking for their first district win over the Centurions. Since the two teams were placed in the same district, CAL is 2-0 versus Owen County. The Rebels did defeat the Centurions in the opening game of the 1999 season,14-0, in Owenton.

  • Owen Co. soccer teams bow out of...

    Both Owen County soccer teams entered their respective district tournaments knowing the road was going to be tough.

    The Lady Rebels opened up play in the 25th District Tournament Oct. 12 in Frankfort against Franklin County. Owen County played hard but in the end they lost 6-0 to finish the season.

    Owen County Girls Soccer Coach Mike Haines said he was proud of his team and the effort they gave all season. The team will have everyone back next season due to the fact that the roster did not contain a single senior.

  • Streak is over

    Seven-straight seasons of frustration for the Owen County Rebels ended Friday night. Joey Wood scored a pair of touchdowns and the Rebels’ defense again played well as Owen County defeated Carroll County 27-6 for its first win in the rivalry since 2002.

     “It feels really good,” Tyler Pruitt said after the game in a jubilant Owen County locker room. “We beat Gallatin, Trimble and Carroll County all in the same year.”

  • Golf team misses cut at...

    The Owen County girls’ golf team spent fall break in Bowling Green. The team was there to compete in the KHSAA Girls’ State Golf Tournament.

    On Thursday, the Lady Rebels had a chance to get out on the course at Bowling Green Country Club. They were able to get through most of the practice round before the rain began to fall. The rain did not quit until Saturday, wiping out the opening day of the tournament, which was scheduled to begin Friday.
