  • Rebels get back in the groove

    The Owen County High School Rebels took the floor Saturday night hoping to get a bad taste out of their mouths.
    The last time the Rebels walked off the court was following the disappointing loss to Holy Cross in the second round of the All ‘A’ Classic in Frankfort. The team was originally slated to be on the floor last Tuesday against Highlands but scheduling issues resulting from the team’s appearance in the All ‘A’ Classic meant the game had to canceled.  

  • On the mark

    Dave Kelley’s Elk Creek Hunt Club Manager Shadoe Perry took part in the the National Sporting Clay Tournament at San Antonio, Texas. The event is one of the largest shoots in the world. Perry  finished in second place for the main event (Lady C Class); first place (C Class); all-state/zone team; and was named runner up for first-time attendee in the women’s division.

  • Lady Rebels fall on road to...

    Owen County and South Oldham went into their Jan. 23  game with the two best records in the eighth region.
    When the game was over,  the Lady Rebels realized they still had some work to do if they wanted to be the best team.
    The Lady Dragons jumped out to a 15-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead over the next three quarters to win 59-36.

  • Owen County’s Devin Duvall...

    It was a milestone night for Devin Duvall.
    Before heading to Frankfort last week for the All ‘A’ Classic, the Owen County High School Rebels hosted the Eminence Warriors in a 31st district contest. The Rebels barely broke a sweat as they dominated in an 82-36 win. The win was the 100th of Owen County High School Head Boys Basketball Coach Devin Duvall’s career.
    His first win came Nov. 30, 2006 when Owen County won 61-48 at Williamstown.
    After the milestone victory, Duvall said he did not realize he had reached 100.

  • Rebels fall in All ‘A’...

    For the Owen County High School Rebels, the All ‘A’ Classic in Frankfort might be most remembered for what might have been.
    Big crowds followed Owen County to Frankfort on Thursday and Friday. The faithful witnessed the Rebels have little trouble with Buckhorn in the first round as they defeated the Wildcats 55-37.
    They would then fall in the quarterfinals to Holy Cross only to see the Indians defeat Bardstown on Sunday to claim the championship.

  • ‘A’ great achievement

    The Owen County Rebels will play an unscheduled road game Thursday night. None of them are complaining.
    For the first time since 2003, the Owen County High School Rebels are the Eighth Region All ‘A’ champions.
    Owen County claimed its third title Saturday night at Trimble County High School as they defeated Walton-Verona 65-58. The team also won in 1996.
    The Rebels opened up the tournament Jan. 17 by taking on Gallatin County.
    The Wildcats were responsible for knocking Owen County out of the event the last two years.
    This would be the year the Rebels turn the tables.

  • State All ‘A’ Classic Preview

    • The State All ‘A’ Classic will be held Thursday through Sunday at the Frankfort Convention Center.
    • The Rebels will be making their third appearance in the tournament. The previous two came in 1996 and 2003. Owen County is 2-2 all-time in the event. The Rebels advanced to the semifinals in 1996 before falling to University Heights and were eliminated in the first round in 2003 by Bishop Brossart.

  • Owen County Lady Rebels shoot...

    The mark of a good team is often seen in how it handles adversity. For the Owen County High School Lady Rebels that test came Thursday night in Owenton.
    After falling in the finals of the 8th Region All ‘A’ Classic Jan. 14, the team was back on the court the following Monday at Franklin County.
    Things got off to a good start as Owen County raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.
    The Lady Flyers would eventually score late in the first quarter and once they did they would go on a 17-2 run to take the lead. Owen County would bounce back and cut the deficit to 29-28 at halftime.

  • What you need to know about Boys...

    • This year’s tournament is being held at Trimble County High School. The opening round began Tuesday night with Owen County playing Gallatin County. The action continues tonight as Eminence takes on Trimble County and Walton-Verona plays Williamstown. The semifinals will be played Friday night and the championship game on Saturday.
    • The eighth-region champion will advance to the All ‘A’ State Tournament to be held at the Frankfort Convention Center Jan. 25-29.

  • Roller coaster week for Rebels

    The Owen County High School Rebels had a roller coaster kind of week. It was a span in which they endured the agony of defeat followed by the thrill of victory.
    The Rebels began last week with a contest with Grant County in Dry Ridge. The game was tight throughout but it was the Braves who made the final big play to claim the victory.
    The Rebels led 19-15 at the end of the first quarter before the Braves battled back in the second to take a 31-29 at half time.
