  • Boys track takes second at Henry...

    The Owen County High School Rebels continued their stellar spring on the track.
    The team recently traveled to New Castle for the Henry County All-Comers Meet. The team finished second behind Meade County High School.
    Overall, the Rebels claimed first place in six events.
    Paul Banks won the 100-meter dash while Collin Trammel captured the 200-meter dash.
    Hunter Trenary crossed the tape first in the 3200-meter run.
    In the field events, Cooper Taylor finished on top in the high jump with Trammel winning the long jump.

    Macie Chappell led the Wildcats with three goals during the match. She scored two during the second quarter and finished with one in the fourth quarter.
    Lilly Chappell also added a goal in the fourth quarter - her first of the spring season.
    The Wildcats did not allow a goal with their strong, consistent defense.

  • Williams, Gayheart receive honors

    Two Owen County High School basketball players were named to the Lexington Herald Leader’s All-State teams on Sunday.
    Sawyer Williams and Rianna Gayheart were each named honorable mention after leading their teams to 31st district titles and appearances in the  eighth region semifinals.
     

  • Lady Rebels enjoy winning week

    The Owen County High School softball team enjoyed a winning week.
    The team won a pair of contests as they defeated Trimble County 13-1 last Monday in five innings and then edged Gallatin County 5-4 on Thursday in Owenton.
    The win over the Lady Wildcats avenged an earlier loss 2-0 loss to Gallatin County in Warsaw.
    In between the two wins, the team dropped a 15-6 decision to Henry County. The Lady Rebels are scheduled to be in action today (Wednesday) as they travel to take on Eminence.
    The team will then travel to Henry County on Tuesday.

  • Rebels reach All ‘A’ finals

    After rain postponed action Saturday, the sun came out on Sunday morning along with gusty winds. It was those breezy conditions that led to a big inning for an Owen County High School opponent.
    After knocking off Carroll County High School 3-0 in the 8th Region All ‘A’ Classic semifinals Sunday afternoon the Rebels then took on Walton-Verona in the championship game. The Bearcats reached the finals by defeating Eminence in the semifinals.

  • Owen County girls run in New...

    The Owen County High School girls track team was in action last week in New Castle. The team took part in the Henry County All-Comers meet where they placed fifth as a team.
    In the 100-meter dash, it was Emily Allen in fourth place; Andi Burford in fifth place; Ashley Byers captured eighth; Kailen Sizemore, 12th; Autumn Gover, 14th and Suzanna Cooke came in 15th.
    In the 200-meter dash Allen again placed fourth with Haley DeCandia in sixth; Ashley Byers finished seventh; Sarah Willhoite, 10th; and Hannah Strohmeier came in 11th.

  • Tim Farmer Archery Classic set...

    The 17th annual Tim Farmer Archery Classic will be held May 19-20 at the headquarters of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources in Frankfort.
    Tim Farmer, host of the department’s popular “Kentucky Afield” television show, will attend.
    “Competition will be in 12 classes for men, women and youth,” Farmer said. “We welcome NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) shooters and their families.”

  • Owen track teams host Dayton and...

    The Owen County High School boys and girls track teams were in action Friday in Owenton. The teams hosted the Owen County All-Comers Meet that featured Dayton and Eminence. Both teams dominated the competition.
    In the girls 100-meter dash, it was Amber Gover crossing the line first with Ashley Byers finishing in third place.
    Kaileen Sizemore placed seventh; Sarah Willhoite, eighth; Hannah Strohmeier came in ninth; Autumn Gover finished 10th; and Sarayna Knox placed 12th.

    The Wildcats defeated the  Clovers in the season opener. Striking first for the Wildcats was Avery Miller. Miller scored two goals in the third quarter, one goal off an assist from Alexandria Perry. Macie Chappell added a goal for the Wildcats during the fourth quarter. The entire Wildcat team played great.
    The Clovers had excellent defensive play by Savannah Boyce, Kallista Ogden and Nick Angle stopping many shot attempts by the Wildcats.
