  • Williams named to all-tournament...

    Freshman Runnin’ Rebel Carson Williams was selected to the 2013 Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic All-Tournament Team. Williams is only the third player in program history to receive this honor. He joins former Owen County High School Rebels Adam Patterson and Jason Sharp who also received the honor.

  • Knott to be

    The Owen County High School Runnin’ Rebels found themselves in a familiar setting Friday night in Frankfort.
    For the second-straight year, the team reached the quarterfinals of the Touchstone Energy All ‘A’ Classic. They would have that familiar feeling of disaappointment coming home on Friday night.
    The Rebels entered Friday night’s game with Knott County Central and knew it would be a challenge.
    The Patriots featured the leading scorer in the state, Cameron Justice. The sophomore entered the tournament averaging 27 points a game.

  • Lady Rebels get past Lady Tigers...

    The Lady Rebels had to feel good about their chances Jan. 21 at Beechwood. Owen County had won its last three games against teams from the ninth region.
    This contest wouldn’t  be an exception.
    Owen County traveled north Jan. 21 and returned to Owenton with a hard fought 58-54 win over Beechwood.
    Hannah Neeley had a big night as she poured in 22 points to lead the Lady Rebels to their fourth-straight win over a ninth region opponent. All four wins have come away from Owenton.

  • ‘A’ history-making night

    The Owen County Rebels entered the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic last week with a chance to make history. No other Rebel team had ever won back-to-back titles.
    Owen County won the tournament in 1996 and also in 2003 but were not able to duplicate the feat the following season. In fact, in 2004 the Rebels lost in the first round.
    Saturday night at Williamstown, the Rebels punched their ticket back to Frankfort with a 69-47 win over Walton-Verona in the championship game.

  • Touchstone Energy All ‘A’...

    • The tournament begins Thursday morning with opening-round games. The quarterfinals will be held on Friday with the semifinals on Saturday night. The championship game will be played on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. All games will be played at the Frankfort Convention Center.
    • The Eighth Region representative has reached the quarterfinals in four of the past six years. The last time a team from the Eighth Region went to the semifinals was Walton-Verona in 2004.

  • Lady Rebels’ ‘new’ season begins...

    Instead of hanging their heads following their disappointing loss in the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic semifinals, the Owen County Lady Rebels decided to change their perspective.
    “We’re cleaning the slate,” Owen County High School Head Girls Basketball Coach Bob Osborne said. “Starting today, this is a new season.”
    The Lady Rebels began the new season with a victory last Thursday night at home.
    The 46-37 win over Franklin County avenged an earlier loss this season to the Lady Flyers in Frankfort.

  • Wildcats win rematch

    When Owen County defeated Gallatin County by 28 points in December, fans of both teams wondered how it happened and what it meant.
    After the rematch in Owenton, those same questions are again being asked.
    The Wildcats came to town Jan. 10 and turned the tables on the Rebels and came away with a 64-53 victory.
    The two teams played a nearly even first half but Gallatin County held a 21-20 lead at halftime.
    Things would however change dramatically in the third quarter in favor of the team in blue.

  • Boys All ‘A’ Classic preview

    • Owen County enters the tournament as the defending Eighth Region champs. The Rebels are looking to become the first team to repeat as champs since Gallatin County won three straight from 2006 through 2008. The only other team to repeat is Carroll County who won in 1997 and 1998.
    • Of the seven teams currently in the Eighth Region, Eminence is the only one not to have won the title at least once. Henry County and Spencer County have also won championships but are no longer in the tournament due to enrollment size.

  • Semifinal exit for Lady Rebels

    The temperature outside last week was well above normal.
    Inside, the shooting percentage for the Lady Rebels was well below normal.
    The Owen County High School girls basketball team, which has made 43 percent of their shots from the field this season, had a bad night in a game they could not afford to lose.
    On Friday night in Eminence, the Lady Rebels shot just 18 percent from the field which lead to a 47-40 loss to Trimble County in the semifinals of the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic.

  • Lady Rebels hope to begin new...

    When Henry County defeated Owen County on Dec. 18, 2009, it was the last time the Lady Rebels had lost a game to a 31st district opponent.
    Since that time, the team had won 27 consecutive games.
    That streak ended Thursday night.
