  • Owen judo team captures third in...

    The Owen County Judo Team took third place at the 2013 O. J. Helvey Kentucky State Judo Championship in Bowling Green on March 23.  In special recognition for representation of the state of Kentucky at the national level over the course of 2012, the following awards were presented: Erroyl Cheatham Presidential Award,  Robert Beverly; Fighting Spirit Award (Junior), James Thompson. Both young men were unavailable because they were competing in Miami, Fla. at the 2013 Youth Scholastics.

  • Rebels drop district opener

    After four road games to begin the baseball season, The Owen County High School boys baseball team finally played their first home game on Saturday. Unfortunately it was not the result they were hoping for.
    Owen County defeated Carroll County three times last year. In two of the victories, the Rebels shutout the Panthers and the other was a one-run decision in the 31st District semifinals.

  • Lady Rebels rolling early

    The Owen County High School softball team is off to a good start. In fact, they are off to their best start since 2007.
    The Lady Rebels are 3-0 on the season after beating Williamstown on Thursday in Owenton. Owen County got off to a quick start in the game and never looked back as they rolled to the 13-3 victory.
    With the win the Lady Rebels improved to 3-0 on the season. The start is the best since 2007 when Owen County started that year 4-0.
    So far this season the team has not had any trouble scoring runs.

  • Owen track teams run in New...

    The Owen County High School track team took its show on the road last week.
    The team took part in the Henry County All-Comers Meet in New Castle. They then travelled to Bracken County Saturday to participate in the Glacier Invitational.
    On March 19, the girls competed against Henry County, Trimble County, Carroll County and North Oldham high schools.

  • Julie Spaulding signs with Asbury

    An Owen County High School golfer is taking her skills to college.
    Julie Spaulding has signed a letter of intent to play golf at Asbury College in Wilmore.
    Spaulding is the daughter of Terry and Kathy Spaulding. The senior has played three seasons of golf for Owen County under coach David Wainscott.
    Wainscott had high praise for his former player.
    “Our team will miss Julie,” Wainscott said. “Asbury is getting a dedicated golfer and an excellent student.”

  • Lady Rebels crush Ladycats

    The Owen County High School softball team opened up the season last week with two impressive victories.
    The Lady Rebels opened up the 2013 campaign March 19 at home against Trimble County with an 8-3 win.
    On March 21, they dominated Pendleton County.
    The Rebels crushed the Ladycats 19-0 in just three innings in Falmouth.
    It is the second-straight season the Lady Rebels have defeated the LadyCats in impressive fashion. Owen County won last year at home 15-0.

  • Rebels look to even record...

    The Owen County High School baseball team was back on the diamond last week as they traveled to take on Frankfort.
    The Rebels would fall 16-9 to the Panthers.
    The loss dropped Owen County to 1-2 to begin the year.
    Weather permitting, they will be busy over the next few days.
    The team will host Henry County Thursday before traveling to Bellevue on Friday.
    Owen County will be back at home on Saturday against Carroll County before taking part in the Valley Invitational next week.

    HotShots - 3 vs. Clemons - 2
    In the opening game of the season, the HotShots played hard to claim the victory.
    Eli Myers scored the first goal for the HotShots. Blaine Spencer and Luke Myers hustled to defend as fullbacks in the second and third quarters.
    Price Griffin added two goals in the fourth quarter to seal the win. The win was a team effort for the HotShots.
    The team welcomes newcomers Gwyneth Culbertson and Hillary Kays to the field.

  • Softball team looks to get over...

    The Owen County High School softball team hopes this is the year they can break through.
    Since 2006, the Lady Rebels have reached the 31st District championship game every season but 2011. They have yet to win. They hope to change that this year.
    After losing their first four games a season ago, the team ran off five-straight wins. They would add another six-game winning streak later in the season on their way to an 18-16 record. It was their third-straight winning season and their third-straight year with at least 15 wins.
