    Perry’s Fireballs vs. Team Dempsey
    The first game of the U8 fall season started Saturday.
    The teams have been practicing skills and learning the game of soccer.
    The Fireballs demonstrated passing skills and showed much improvement from the first day of practice.
    The Fireballs players are Shaya Smith, Lena Smith, Athena Smith, Megan Jones, Brody Hearn, Joshua Brooks, Gabrielle Perry and Nathan Kemper.
    The team put forth a great effort and came out playing very hard.

    • The Owen County High School boys golf team claimed the Henry County Invitational on Saturday.
    Justin Trusty fired a 76 and Cole Hamilton shot 78. Both were named to the all-tournament team.
    On Sept. 9, the boys defeated Williamstown High School. Seventh-grader Braden Howard led the Rebels by shooting a 48 to earn medalist honors.
    • The Owen County High School girls golf team hosted Ryle High School on Sept. 9 at Fairway Golf Course.

  • Girls golf finish fourth in...

    Members of the Owen County High School golf teams had a busy weekend. The Lady Rebels were at Woodsen Bend Golf Course while Justin Trusty represented the Rebels at Eagles Nest in the State All ‘A’ Golf Tournament.
    The girls had to deal with weather issues as play was suspended on Saturday and the tournament was not completed until Sunday afternoon.

    • Lloyd defeated Owen County 34-7 last season in Owenton.
    • This will be the fourth-straight season the two teams have squared off against each other. After the Rebels won in 2011, the Juggernauts have taken the last two.
    • Lloyd is looking for its third-straight winning season.
    • The Juggernauts are coached by Eric Turner who is in his second season. His team finished 6-5 a year ago.

  • Henry County knocks off Owen 63-...

    The Owen County High School football team is still in search of its first win of the 2014 season.
    The Rebels hosted Henry County High School on Friday night at Patterson Field. The Wildcats wasted no time in jumping out to a big lead. They led Owen County 35-0 after the first quarter.
    The Rebels would get on the scoreboard in the second half but would ultimately fall short, 63-20.
    It was the third-straight loss of the season for the Rebels and marks the second-straight year they have started the year 0-3.
    The win improved Henry County to 3-0.

  • Soccer team’s championship bid...

    The Owen County High School Rebels soccer team reached the championship game of the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic for the second year in a row.
    Unfortunately, they suffered the same fate as 2013.
    On Sept. 4, the Rebels played Gallatin County High School in the semifinals at Carroll County. Alex Hernandez would score twice as Owen County defeated the Wildcats 5-1. It was the first win of the year for the Rebels. Also scoring in the game was Preston Forsee, Ricardo Perez and Christian Trejo.

  • Volleyball team has up, down week

    The Owen County High School volleyball team played two matches last week. Neither could have much been much closer but both resulted in different outcomes.
    The first match of the week came Sept. 2 in Warsaw against Gallatin County High School. The Lady Rebels went into the match looking for their first district win of the season. They would come up just short in their quest by dropping the final two games of the match to lose 3-2.

  • Middle-school girls fall to Henry

    Following the Labor Day weekend, the Maurice Bowling Middle School Lady Rebels volleyball team found themselves on the road Sept. 2 and 3 and finished the week at home.
    On Sept. 2, the Lady Rebels proved to be tough. The girls, who had held on to their winning streak for six-straight games, picked up their first loss of the season to the Henry County Lady Wildcats.
    The Lady Rebels travelled to Bondurant Sept. 3 to face the Lady Braves for the third matchup of the season.

    The Owen County High School Lady Rebels soccer team was hoping to get back to the championship game of the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic. Their hopes would end in the semifinals.
    On Sept. 4, the Lady Rebels took the bus to Carrollton where they took on Gallatin County High School in the semifinals.
    Owen County’s Hailey Chappell would find the back of the net for the Rebels but they would still fall short to lose 2-1.

  • ‘A’ Plus: Girls grab sixth-...

    Six years ago, David Wainscott had never coached in a state tournament. Thanks to the Lady Rebels girls golf team, Wainscott is headed to the All ‘A’ State Tournament for the sixth-straight year.
    The Owen County High School girls golf team visited Cardinal Hill Golf Course on Thursday and once again dominated the field to win the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Tournament. As a team, the Lady Rebels shot 344 while the runner-up Trimble County High School finished with a 382. It was the second-straight year the Lady Raiders have finished second.
