  • Cold start but hot finish for...

Owen County has only lost one game against 31st District competition this season. That loss came back in December in Carrollton. The Lady Rebels got their revenge last Tuesday in Owenton.

Much like the weather outside, Owen County started off cold from the field in the first half. Carroll County was also unable to get things going offensively leading to an 18-18 tie at halftime.

The second half was a different story. Owen County would outscore Carroll County 43-16 during the final two quarters on their way to a 61-34 victory.

  • REBELS WIN EIGHTH REGION ALL...

In an outstanding development for the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce, the Owen County Rebels are headed back to the Kentucky All “A” Classic.

The Rebels punched their ticket by defeating Walton-Verona 61-39 in the Eighth Region All “A” Classic championship game on Saturday night in Carrollton. They will take on the winner from the Seventh Region in their first game at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28 at the Frankfort Convention Center. The Seventh Region championship game will be played Friday night.

  • Lady Rebels ousted from All ‘A’...

The host school was not around long in this year’s Eighth Region All “A” Classic.

Just as they did in 2009, the last time Owen County hosted the event, the Lady Rebels began play last Monday night against Trimble County. Unlike that season when Owen County won 50-32, the Lady Raiders insured the Lady Rebels would not be around for the semifinals this time.

Trimble County capitalized on poor shooting and turnovers to defeat Owen County 51-33.

The evening begins with the Lady Rebels taking on Gallatin County at 6 p.m. The induction ceremony will take place following the girls game before the Rebels take on the Wildcats.

  • Rebels enter 2016 undefeated in...

It was business as usual last Tuesday night for the Owen County Rebels.

The last time the Rebels lost a game within the 31st District was on January 27, 2014. Ironically, that loss came in Eminence. It was not to the Warriors, but rather to Carroll County in the championship game of the 8th Region All ‘A’ Classic.

  • Lady Rebels finish third in...

The Owen County Lady Rebels did not have much time for holiday returns following Christmas. Just days after Christmas, the team traveled to Frankfort to take part in the Capital City Holiday Classic on Dec. 29 and 30.

On Tuesday the team took on South Oldham in the first game of the tournament. Owen County led 30-22 at the half on their way to a 57-45 win over the Lady Dragons. The win was the first for Owen County over South Oldham since Dec. 29, 2009 when they won 42-32 at Western Hills.

  • Lady Rebels dominate with win...

The Owen County Lady Rebels gave their coach an early Christmas present last Tuesday night. The team easily defeated Bellevue 60-27 in Owenton.

  • Rebels win two, but fall to...

If the Owen County Rebels did not already know it, they learned last week that they can compete with the best teams across Kentucky.

The team took on Fairdale in the first game of the consolation bracket last Monday. The Rebels led 29-21 at intermission and extended the lead to 50-36 at the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs would rally in the fourth quarter, but the Rebels would hang on to win 63-56.
