    •  The boys’ soccer team concluded the 2016 season on Monday in the semifinals of the 31st District Tournament. The Rebels fell 8-0 to Carroll County. The Panthers would go on to win the championship game on Thursday night. Braden New and Josh Juarez were named to the All-Tournament Team. New finished the season tied for the team lead in goals with Christian Trejo. Both players had four goals. Richardo Perez and Wade Cammack each ended the year with three assists.

  • Soccer teams finish regular...

    The Owen County soccer teams wrapped up their regular season last week. The boys and the girls both played road games last Monday at Gallatin County and Tuesday at Carroll County.
    On Monday evening the boys dropped a 6-2 decision to the Wildcats. Wade Cammack and Brandon New each scored goals while Kameron Kelly and Caleb Wilhoite had assists. The Rebels would then lose to Carroll County on Tuesday night 4-0.

  • 42-0: Rebels blank Raiders

    The Owen County Rebels have dominated Trimble County on the gridiron as of late. That dominance was on full display in Bedford as the Rebels defeated the Raiders 42-0 on Friday night. It was the second straight season the team has shutout Trimble County.
    In the five meetings before Friday’s game in Bedford, Owen County was 5-0 having won by a combined margin of 201-24.
    The Rebels scored via the ground and through the air in the victory. Three different players scored rushing touchdowns while Ty Smith tossed touchdowns to three different Rebels.

  • Rebel Ramblings

    Owen County won 30-18 last year in Owenton.
    In the last ten meetings between the two schools, the series is even at 5-5.
    The Panthers are coached by Lee Downey who is in his second season.
    Carroll County finished the season 5-6 in 2015.
    The Panthers have not enjoyed a winning season since 2012 when they finished 7-4.
    In other district action on Friday night, Walton-Verona (5-3, 3-0) hosts Trimble County (1-7, 0-2). Gallatin County has a bye.

    •  Senior, golfer Lydia Merrifield competed in the KHSAA State Golf Tournament last week in Bowling Green. On day one on Tuesday, Merrifield shot an 83 to make the cut. On Wednesday, she would fire a 92 and would finish the tournament tied for 48th overall. Sarah Fite from Mason County won the tournament.

  • Bearcats get best of Rebels in...

    The Owen County Rebels saw their two-game winning streak snapped  Friday night at Patterson Field.
    After scoring 64 points last week in a win at Newport, the Rebels were held scoreless in losing their district opener 35-0 to Walton-Verona.
    The Bearcats took the opening kickoff and marched down the field and scored when Mason Smith plunged in from one-yard out to put the visitors on top 7-0. They scored later in the first quarter to push the advantage to 14-0 when Micah Alford scampered in for a ten-yard score.

  • Golf teams attend regional...

    The Owen County golf teams took part in their respective regional tournaments this past week.
    The girls participated in the 6th Region Tournament on Monday at Eagle Creek Country Club. As a team, the Lady Rebels finished in third place overall. It was a great day for Lydia Merrifield who finished in fourth place with a round of 80. With her outstanding play, she earned a berth in the KHSAA State Golf Tournament being played yesterday and today at the Bowling Green Country Club.

  • Cross country teams run well at...

    The Owen County cross country teams headed to Williamstown last week to run in the NKCK meet. Both teams ran well with the Lady Rebels finishing second overall and the Rebels fourth.
    For the Lady Rebels, Allison Bourne was the top finisher as she placed sixth overall. Destiny Goodrich and Autumn Hunter were 11th and 12th while Julie Herrmann was 14th and Lucinda Beach 20th to round out the top five finishers.
    Oralia Olquin was 26th, Jessica Herrmann 32nd, Kailey Cram 36th, Miranda Wilhoite 43rd and Caylin Trenary 44th.

  • Soccer teams salute their seniors

    The Owen County soccer teams recognized their seniors last week.
    On Thursday night, the teams hosted Henry County. The Lady Rebels played first and saluted their four seniors; Hailey Chappell, Kaitlynn Goodrich, Marlee Lathrem and Ashley Willis. Owen County would pick up the 3-0 win in the game. Chappell had a pair of goals and Megan Bruener added another in the victory.
