  • Golf scramble to benefit God’s...

    There will be a golf scramble on Aug. 23 at the Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley to benefit God’s Special Little Hearts, a local non-profit organization that helps families that have children with a congenital heart defect.
    The entry fee is $50 per person and includes green fees, cart rental and post-tournament meal. 
    Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun at 8 a.m.

  • Youth soccer league recruiting...

    The Owen County Youth Soccer League and its state and national affiliates are looking for referees.
    The process for certification is handled through a full day – or two – instruction class and a written exam on the material.
    The league will pay for the initial certification if you agree to work four games in the upcoming fall season.
    The league also pays game fees for games worked. 
    Being certified also allows you to work matches and tournaments in other areas of the state and country, as you gain experience.

  • Friends of Football to host drag...

    The Owen County Friends of Football will be hosting a KOI Drag Racing competition Aug. 9 at the Owen County Fairgrounds.
    Practice begins at 5 p.m. with eliminations starting at 7 p.m.
    There is 100 percent payback in all classes.
    There are 26 classes:
    1) 0-50 cc ATV (12 and under) 2 and 4 stroke
    2) 51-125 cc ATV (12 and under) 2 and 4 stroke
    3) 0-50 cc Bikes (12 and under) 2 and 4 stroke
    4) 51-91 cc Bikes (12 and under) 2 and 4 stroke
    5) 126-250 ATV0-50 cc Bikes (12 and under) 2 and 4 stroke (No 250R)

    The Owen County Minor League Baseball team captured third place in the Tri-County Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

  • Owen Co. softball player named...

    On July 11 through 13, the KAOS team from Frankfort coached by Brian Redmond, Aron True and Rodney Parker took a trip to Crossville, Tennessee to play teams from across the United State to bring home the undefeated victory of winning the 14U Girls Fastpitch Softball World Series.
    Owen County local girl Kaitlyn Parker, the daughter of Rodney and Deborah Parker, is the pitcher for the KAOS team.
    Kaitlyn Parker, along with two of her teammates Katherine Mangeot and Emma Hamilton, were also named to the 14 and Under All World Team.

  • Cobb named defensive MVP while...

    Grant Cobb, a 13-U player on the Danville Mustangs baseball team, played six positions during the USSSA World Series over the Fourth of July holiday tournament in Kingsport, Tennessee and received the tournament’s defensive most valuable player award.
    The Mustangs won the tournament by defeating a team from Fredrick, Maryland in the championship game. The USSSA tournament hosted teams from five states.
    The Mustangs also won the 13-U Nationals Tournament held in Elizabethtown, June 23-29 over teams from six states.

    The Owen County Grey Team competed in the Rivercat Rumble July 10-12 in Carrollton.

    I just flipped the calendar over and bam, it hit me that it is July already!
    I’m not sure what happened to May and June but they are in the history books now.
    This has been a weird year in terms of weather. First, we had the winter that wouldn’t end and then spring sprang and kept going and now it’s officially summer.

  • Staying on target: Perry named...

    A sharp-shooting Owen County woman continues to rack up statewide honors as she pursues her dream.
    Shadoe Perry was recently named to the Kentucky Sporting Clays team. She has received the designation several times before but is pleased by the honor.
    Perry said the team doesn’t actually meet or compete against other teams.
    Points are accrued by how a shooter ranks during competition. The top points winners are named to the team.
