  • Boys run to third-place finish...

    The Owen County High School boys track team was in Dry Ridge on Friday night where they took part in the Grant County Invitational. The team performed well enough to finish in third place.
    In the 100-meter dash, Kyler Law finished fifth; Drew Smith, seventh; and Dakota Humphries, 15th.
    In the 200-meter dash, it was Mariano Bolanos placing seventh; Logan Bitler, eighth; and Rhyan Hatchett, ninth.
    It was Hatchett coming across the finish line fifth in the 400-meter dash with Dakota Pence, seventh; Kaleb Wilhoite, eighth; and Keith Stout, ninth.

  • MBMS soccer team off to strong...

    The Maurice Bowling Middle School girls soccer team has gotten out of the gates fast this season.
    The Lady Rebels are 5-0 after posting impressive wins. The team did not give up a goal in the first two games defeating Williamstown, 10-0, and St. Patrick, 8-0.
    They also have a 6-3 win over Henry County High School.
    The team played its closest contest of the season so far against Calvary Christian at Walton-Verona.

  • Justin Shelton to continue...

    Former Runnin’ Rebel Justin Shelton signed a national letter of intent to play college basketball at Erskine College in Due West, S.C. The “Flying Fleet” are a member of the NCAA Division 2 and compete in Conference Carolinas. Shelton averaged 9 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two blocks for Owen County in 2012-13; was All NCKC; and a member of back-to-back 31st District and Eighth Region All “A” championship teams.

  • Judo team takes third at state

    The Owen County Judo Team competed Saturday at the O. J. Helvey Kentucky State Judo Championship at Southern High School in Louisville. Cobra Judo of Louisville placed first; Bowling Green Judo took second; and Owen County Judo placed third with 46 points.

  • Rebel boys win Carroll County...

    The Owen County High School boy’s track team had a good night in Carrollton on Friday night.
    The team took part in the Carroll County Invitational against the likes of Carroll County, Eminence and Switzerland County from Indiana.
    The Rebels easily finished first with Carroll County, second; Switzerland County, third; and Eminence, fourth.
    In the 100-meter dash, Drew Smith finished sixth; Kyler Law, seventh; Logan Dunavent, ninth; Logan Bitler, 10th; Evan Lozier, 11th; Dakota Humphries, 13th; Brandon Lewis, 14th; and Connor Jacobs, 15th.

  • Lady Rebels finish second

    The Owen County High School girl’s track team brought home a second-place finish from the Carroll County Invitational  Friday night. The Lady Rebels finished just four points behind first-place finisher Switzerland County from Indiana.
    In the 100-meter dash, it was Andi Burford crossing the finish line first with Hailey Hatchett coming in third; Julie Herrman, eighth; and Jessica Herrman, ninth.
    Julie Hermann was fifth and Jessica Herrman sixth in the 200-meter dash.

  • No repeat performance for Rebel...

    It was not to be for the Owen County High School Rebels.
    The Rebels entered play in the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic on Thursday hoping to repeat as champions. Owen County won three games in last year’s tournament to claim the title. Their stay this season would last only one game.
    Carroll County and Owen County faced off on Thursday night.
    While the Rebels enjoyed success last year, the Panthers lost their first game a year ago to Walton-Verona High School.

  • Lady Rebels fall in All ‘A’...

    The Owen County High School softball team took part in the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic last week. The results were not what they had hoped for.
    The team began the tournament by taking on Walton-Verona. The Lady Bearcats would get the best of the Lady Rebels winning 14-4 in five innings. It was the second time this season Walton-Verona has defeated Owen County. The Lady Bearcats defeated the Lady Rebels 5-1 on March 26 in Owenton.
    Walton-Verona would defeat Gallatin County 5-4 in the championship game.

  • A beautiful day to shamble in...

    If you love golf, you don’t normally need a good reason to play.
    Just in case you did however, the 15th Annual Charlie Satterwhite Memorial Golf Shamble provided one on Saturday.
    Almost as if on cue, the sun came out just before noon on Saturday at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley.

  • Rain plays havoc for Rebels on...

    Owen County High School does not have a rowing team. It’s too bad because they could have practiced last week on the baseball and softball fields.
    Neither the baseball team or the softball team saw much action last week. The baseball team played one game while the softball team was not in action once.
    The Rebels took on Scott County March 31 and were shut out, 10-0.
