  • Owen girls track team stays busy

    The Owen County High School girls track team spent a busy week running around northern Kentucky and Lexington.
    The team started last week at Walton-Verona in the NCKC Meet.
    Overall, the team would finish fourth behind Walton-Verona, Trimble County and Henry County high schools. Williamstown and Carroll County high schools placed fifth and sixth.
    In the 100-meter dash, it was Andi Burford and Sarah Willhoite placed sixth and 10th.
    Burford finished fifth in the 200-meter dash while Ardri Hager placed seventh.

  • Boys track team gets pair of...

    The Owen County High School boy’s track team had a busy week. The team competed in three meets last week and twice finished in third place.
    The week began with a trip to Walton-Verona and the NCKC Meet.
    The Bearcats would easily win the meet while Owen County finished third, just eight points behind Henry County High School.
    The Rebels had some outstanding individual performances.
    Collin Trammel finished first in both the 200-meter dash and the long jump.

  • Lady Rebels split week

    Coming off a dramatic home win last week, the Lady Rebels hit the road this week for a pair of games.
    The girls of Owen County High School traveled to Collins on April 23 where they played both games. The team came home with both a win and a loss.
    The Lady Rebels dropped a 7-4 decision to Collins in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
    Owen County would however get past Shelby County High School, 9-8.

  • Rebels fall in sectional

    The Owen County High School baseball team went into Friday night’s All ‘A’ Sectional contest hoping to earn a trip to Whitaker Bank Park. It was not to be.
    The Rebels managed only two hits and committed a pair of errors in losing to Whitfield Academy 3-0.
    The Wildcats got a run in the fourth and then two more in the fifth to earn a berth in the quarterfinals of the All ‘A’ State Tournament against Danville this weekend in Lexington.

  • Williams transitions to Carson...

    On April 24, former Owen County HIgh School Runnin’ Rebel and 2012 Eighth Region Player of the Year Sawyer Williams signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division 2 basketball on a full athletic scholarship at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn. Williams is transferring from Morehead State University where he was a red shirt freshman this past season.

  • Rebels stay hot

    The Owen County High School baseball team is on a roll. The kind of roll they have not seen in a while.
    The Rebels won two more games this week to improve their record to 11-5 overall.
    Owen County defeated Eminence 15-1 on Thursday night in Owenton and knocked off Pendleton County 2-1 on Saturday in the Owen County Invitational Tournament.
    The pair of wins extended the team’s winning streak to seven in a row.
    The streak equals that of last year when the team also ran off seven-straight wins.

  • Swigert helps break losing streak

    The Owen County High School softball team needed a win and they got one in exciting fashion.
    The Lady Rebels had not beaten a team from Kentucky since March 28 when they defeated Williamstown 13-3.
    The team’s only other win since came against a team from Hixson, Tenn. in the Play It Again Classic two weeks ago.
    Heading into Thursday night’s game with South Oldham High School, the team needed a mental lift.
    Owen County had lost 9-6 earlier in the week against Henry County High School and were in a tight contest that could go either way.

  • Owen teams dominate home meet

    The Owen County High School track teams hosted a meet last week and both came away victorious.
    The teams hosted Grant County and Carroll County high schools on Thursday in the Owen County All-Comers Meet.
    The girls easily won by totaling 107 points. Grant County finished in second place with 41 points and Carroll County came in third with 40 points.
    For the girls, Amber Gover finished second in the 100-meter dash with Haley DeCandia, third; Andi Burford, fourth; Paula Rivera, fifth; Nicole Jacobs, seventh; Sarah Willhoite, ninth; and Helena Kramer, 12th.

  • Owen County Youth Soccer League

    HotShots - 2 vs Big Monsters - 0
     
    On a bright sunny afternoon, the HotShots held the Big Monsters scoreless after an aggressive match.
    Price Griffin scored early for the HotShots. Gabi Stewart played strong defense and had many great passes forward to the strikers. Landen Perkins was strong in the goal during the first quarter and carried that strength onto the field while playing fullback. Griffin scored again in the third quarter.
    Hayden Wilson played goalie during the fourth quarter and preserved the shutout.
