  • Regular season wraps up for...

    The Owen County High School Lady Rebels soccer team have put the wraps on the 2014 regular season.
    Owen County got things started by hosting Calvary Christian on Oct. 8 at Patterson Field.
    McKenzie Edgett and Amber Gover each found the back of the net for the Lady Rebels. Calvary Christian however would win the game 4-2.
    For Gover, it was her 10th goal of the season. The achievement marks the first time since 2012 the Lady Rebels had two players reach double figures in goals.
    On Oct. 9, the team traveled to take on Frankfort Independent High School.

  • Boys soccer ends regular season

    The Owen County High School boys soccer team wrapped up the regular season last week.
    The team played a pair of games - one at home against Walton-Verona High School and the other on the road at Grant County High School.
    On Oct. 8, the team closed out the home portion of the season at Patterson Field against the Bearcats. It was the third meeting between the two schools this season. Each had the same outcome – a Walton-Verona victory. Preston Forsee would score for the Rebels but it would not be enough as Owen County fell 5-1.

  • Lady Rebels busy on volleyball...

    No one could blame the Owen County High School volleyball team if they needed a nap.
    The team played eight matches last week. Owen County played matches on Oct. 6 through 9 and five matches on Oct. 11
    On Oct. 6, the team hosted Trimble County High School. After losing the first game 25-23 the Lady Rebels bounced back to take game two 25-21. The Lady Raiders would have the final say as they won the deciding game 25-20 to claim the match.
    The next day, the team traveled to Williamstown High School to take on the Lady Demons.

  • Cross-county team runs at Saint...

    The Owen County High School cross-country team took part in the Saint Henry Invitational on Saturday.
    Noah Hunter and Carson Cram ran in the elementary boy’s race with Hunter finishing 17th and Cram coming in 30th.
    In the elementary girl’s race, Allison Bourne finished fifth.
    Lucinda Beach placed 35th in the middle school girl’s race with Piper Walker coming in 75th place and Kailey Cram finished in 97th.
    In the boys junior varsity race, it was Westley Johnson placing 87th and Lee House finishing106th.

  • Owen County Youth League Soccer...

    Perry’s Fireballs vs. Team Dempsey
    The U8 soccer teams are looking great as we head toward the middle of the season.
    Both teams showed great improvement since the last matchup.
    Team Dempsey’s team had a great deal of shots taken on goal. The goalies for the game were Brody Hearn, Shaya Smith, Nathan Kemper and Lena Smith, who collectively had 11 saves for the game.  Also while in the keeper position, Kemper had a punt that resulted in a goal for the Fireballs.

  • Rebels still searching for first...

    As the calendar flipped to October, the Owen County High School football team was still seeking its first win of the season.
    They would have to wait.
    The Walton-Verona High School Bearcats came to Patterson Field Friday night and left with a 50-22 victory.
    The loss means the Rebels are now 0-7 on the season and 0-1 in the district.
    The Bearcats improved to 6-1 on the year and 2-0 inside the district.

  • Rebel Ramblings: Next game - at...

    • The Rebels beat the Raiders last season 19-6 at Patterson Field
    • Owen County has won five straight over Trimble County. The last Trimble County win came on Oct. 31, 2008, in Owenton when the Raiders won 24-6.
    • Trimble County has already scored more points in six games than they did all of last season. The Raiders scored 66 points in 2013 and have tallied 123 points so far in 2014.

  • Rebels defeat Wildcats on...

    The drought is over the Owen County High School boys soccer team.
    Heading into the Sept. 30 contest against Gallatin County High School in Warsaw, the Rebels had lost 10-straight games. In fact, their last win was a 5-1 victory over Gallatin County in the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic.
    It was the second time in five days the two schools had met on the pitch. The Wildcats had defeated the Rebels 2-1 in Owenton on Sept. 25.
    On Sept. 30, both teams would score a pair of goals in regulation. Alex Hernandez notched both of the Owen County tallies.

  • Lady Rebels soccer gets third...

    The Owen County High School Lady Rebels soccer team picked up a district victory last week.
    Hailey Chappell had two more goals and Autumn Gover picked up her third shutout of the season in goal as Owen County blanked Carroll County 2-0 in Owenton Sept. 29. Chappell now has 12 goals on the season.
    The Lady Rebels did not fare as well in their final two games of the week.
    The team dropped a 4-1 contest at Gallatin County Sept. 30 before being shutout 7-0 at Villa Madonna on Oct. 3.
