  • Middle-school girls fall to Henry

    Following the Labor Day weekend, the Maurice Bowling Middle School Lady Rebels volleyball team found themselves on the road Sept. 2 and 3 and finished the week at home.
    On Sept. 2, the Lady Rebels proved to be tough. The girls, who had held on to their winning streak for six-straight games, picked up their first loss of the season to the Henry County Lady Wildcats.
    The Lady Rebels travelled to Bondurant Sept. 3 to face the Lady Braves for the third matchup of the season.

  • Lady Rebels fall out in...

    The Owen County High School Lady Rebels soccer team was hoping to get back to the championship game of the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic. Their hopes would end in the semifinals.
    On Sept. 4, the Lady Rebels took the bus to Carrollton where they took on Gallatin County High School in the semifinals.
    Owen County’s Hailey Chappell would find the back of the net for the Rebels but they would still fall short to lose 2-1.

  • ‘A’ Plus: Girls grab sixth-...

    Six years ago, David Wainscott had never coached in a state tournament. Thanks to the Lady Rebels girls golf team, Wainscott is headed to the All ‘A’ State Tournament for the sixth-straight year.
    The Owen County High School girls golf team visited Cardinal Hill Golf Course on Thursday and once again dominated the field to win the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Tournament. As a team, the Lady Rebels shot 344 while the runner-up Trimble County High School finished with a 382. It was the second-straight year the Lady Raiders have finished second.

  • Rebel claims Eighth Region title

    Owen County High School golfer Justin Trusty is a regional champion.
    On Thursday at Cardinal Hill Golf Course, the senior fired a 75 to win the Eighth-Region All ‘A’ Classic. The win means a second-straight trip to the All ‘A’ State Tournament this weekend in Somerset at Eagles Nest Golf Course.
    Trusty finished the day one shot better than Tanner Stark from Trimble County and two shots ahead of Clint Burgess from Carroll County, who carded a 77.

    • The Wildcats beat the Rebels 41-7 last season in New Castle.
    • Henry County is coached by Jason Spencer, who is in his fourth season on the sidelines.
    • Owen County High School Head Football Coach Adam Fowler is looking for his first win against the Wildcats. He is 0-4.
    • The last time the Rebels defeated the Wildcats won Oct. 17, 2002. Owen County defeated  Henry County that night 47-6 in Owenton.
    • The last time Henry County started the season 2-0 was in 2009 when they started the year 4-0.

  • Braves run past Rebels, 60-7

    As quickly as momentum was on Owen County’s side Friday night in Dry Ridge, it was gone.
    After falling behind 14-0 in the opening quarter against Grant County High School, the Rebels seemed to have turned the tide in their favor.
    On the first play of the second quarter, Elijah Hafley picked off a Braves’ pass and returned it to the Owen County 49-yard line.

  • Tough week for OCHS girls soccer...

    The last few days have not been ones to remember for the Owen County High School girls soccer team.
    The team began the week Aug. 25 in Shelbyville against Shelby County High School. The Lady Rockets defeated the Lady Rebels 6-0.
    Owen County played its first home game of the season on Aug. 27 when they hosted Franklin County High School. The Lady Rebels would find themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard as they fell 5-1.

  • Volleyball team falls twice

    The Owen County High School volleyball team played a pair of competitive matches last week. Unfortunately, they came up just short in both.
    The week began with a road match at Grant County High School. After the Lady Braves won the opening game of the match 25-22, the Lady Rebels came back to even things up with a 25-23 win in game two. Grant County regained control of the match in the third game with a 25-12 win. Game four was tight throughout but the Lady Braves came out on top 25-22.

  • Rebels prepare for All ‘A’

    As the Owen County High School boys soccer team gets ready for the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic this week, they will be looking for better results than the tournament they just finished.
    The Rebels spent last week traveling back and forth between Owenton and Frankfort where they took part in the Frankfort Rotary Capital City Classic. They played three games in the event and dropped all three in shutout fashion.
    They lost to Franklin County on Tuesday, Western Hills on Thursday and Frankfort on Saturday.

  • Hot streak continues for MBMS...

    The last week of August found the MBMS Lady Rebels Volleyball Team on the road.
    The Lady Rebels traveled to Gallatin Aug. 26 where the sixth-grade and eight-grade teams swept the Lady Cats in two-set matches.
    On Aug. 27, the Lady Rebels traveled to Williamstown and faced the Lady Demons.
    The eight-grade team (6-0) captured the first set but dropped the second. The Lady Rebels rallied to defeat the Lady Demons and held onto the winning streak.
