  • Owen County makes a run at state...

    The Owen County High School cross-country team wrapped up its season on Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park.
    The Rebels took part in the state cross-country meet.
    As a team, the boys finished 12th out of 27 teams.
    Owen County was led by junior Hunter Trenary who finished fourth overall. The outcome was an improvement from last season when Trenary finished eighth.
    “I was very happy with the way I ran today,” Trenary said.  “(Saturday’s race) might have been the best race of the season for me.”

  • Deja Vu for Rebels

    They had their chances.
    Turnovers and missed opportunities did in the Owen County High School Rebels  Friday night at Patterson Field. Three first-quarter miscues and several empty possessions led to a season-ending defeat to Holy Cross.
    The Indians defeated the Rebels 42-32 in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
    The game was a rematch of last year’s second-round game when Holy Cross came to Owenton and defeated Owen County 45-0 to end a perfect season. The Indians would go on to win the Class 2A state championship.

  • Several soccer players rewarded...

    Several postseason honors have been given to Lady Rebel soccer players including an Owen County first.
    Senior Andi Wash was named to the First Team All Eighth Region Team to make her the first Lady Rebel to be honored in that way. The team is selected by coaches from the Eight Region.
    Seniors Ashley Byers and Morgan Walker were named honorable mention All Eighth  Region. It is the fourth year in a row the Lady Rebels have had players named to the squad.

  • Rebels headed to state cross-...

    The Owen County High School Boys’ Cross Country team is headed to the Class A state meet.
    The team earned its spot Saturday at the Class A region five meet by finishing in second place. The Rebels were led by Hunter Trenary, who finished in second place just 12 seconds behind Nick Waltman from Sayre. For Waltman, it was his second-straight regional title. Trenary finished third  in last year’s meet.

  • Needed or not, proposed...

    One statewide issue on November’s ballot in Kentucky will allow voters to decide whether hunting and fishing will become a constitutionally protected right.
    Whether the proposed constitutional amendment will have any impact or is needed depends on who you ask.
    The General Assembly passed in 2011 the legislation filed by State Rep. Leslie Combs, D-Pikeville, to put the amendment on the ballot.

  • Rebels run strong at Meet of...

    The Owen County High School cross county team spent their Saturday in Lexington. The team was taking part in the KTCCCA Meet of Champions.
    Owen County junior Hunter Trenary entered the race ranked No. 3 in the state. He would finish third on Saturday just 12 seconds behind Brady Baker from Cooper who won the race. Cory Hudnall finished 61st out of over 400 participants.
    Kyle Flood, Logan Bitler, Keith Stout, Mitchell Griffin, Logan Herring and Evan Lozier also ran for the Rebels.

  • Rebel Ramblings: Playoff Edition

    • Holy Cross ended the Rebels’ perfect season a year ago when they defeated Owen County 45-0 in the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs in Owenton.
    • The Indians finished the season 3-7 after falling 50-0 to Holmes on Friday night. Holy Cross won two of last their four games after beginning the season 1-5.
    • Owen County finished the season by winning their final four games after beginning the season 2-4.

  • Rebels hitting their stride

    Despite having already clinched home-field advantage in the first round of the Class 2A State Playoffs, the Owen County High School Rebels still had a lot to play for in their final regular-season game on Friday night.
    The Rebels traveled to Ludlow and looked to finish the regular season with a victory to give them a winning record for the second year in a row.
    They were also looking to gain momentum as they head into the playoffs.
    They did both.
