  • Lady Rebels make history

    The Owen County High School girls soccer team entered Thursday night’s 31st District championship game with a chance to accomplish a school first.
    They did.
    After spending many years in the 25th District with some of the toughest teams in both the region and the state, the Lady Rebels entered the 2012 season in a new yet familiar district.
    Thanks to realignment, Owen County was put in the 31st District with Carroll County and Henry County.

  • Rebel Ramblings: Gallatin Co.

    • The Rebels defeated the Wildcats 33-0 last season in Owen County.
    • Owen County is 4-2 all-time against Gallatin County including a 2-1 record at Patterson Field.
    • The Wildcats began the season by winning their first four games. Since then, they have dropped three of the last four and  are 5-3 overall.
    • Tim Browning is the only coach in the history of the program. Since 2006, Browning and Wildcats are 33-38 overall.
    • The Wildcats are 2-4 after a bye week. They are 0-1 against Owen County following a week off.

  • Wild night in Carrollton

    A great deal was on the line when the Owen County High School football team got on the bus Friday evening and headed to Carrollton.
    The Rebels and Panthers both had hopes of moving a step closer to a No. 2 seed in the upcoming playoffs.
    Just minutes into the game, it appeared the Rebels were still on the bus.
    Carroll County took the opening kickoff and returned it for a touchdown for the early 7-0 lead.
    The Panthers would then intercept an Adam Hazlett pass to set up another scoring drive and Carroll County was out to a 14-0 advantage.

  • Owen County’s Trenary triumphs

    Hunter Trenary should be used to winning. For the second-straight year, the junior has won the NCKC championship.
    After winning last year at Henry County, Trenary had the chance to defend the title on his home course as Owen County hosted the event Oct. 9. There was little drama at the finish line as Trenary finished first nearly one minute ahead of the nearest competitor.
    “I am very humbled to win two years in a row,” Trenary said. “I have been working very hard since last year.”

  • Titles hopes dashed

    Things seemed so promising for the Owen County High School boys soccer team entering last week.
    The Rebels had the No. 1 seed and they were hosting the first-ever 31st District tournament between these four schools.
    The tournament got underway Oct. 9  with Carroll County thumping Henry County 10-0 in one semifinal.
    Taylor Byrd and Brandon Stewart both had three goals to pace the Panthers. Josh McCarty also had a pair of goals in the win.
    In the other semifinal, Owen County defeated Gallatin County 4-1.

    Dylan Wainscott, son of Jason and Robbyn Wainscott, took his first 8-point buck during youth hunt season.  He shot it at 100 yards with a .243.

    Blaine Spencer took his first deer this youth weekend on his grandparent’s farm on Claxon Ridge while hunting with “Momma” Kara Spencer, his uncles Gabe and Brad.

    Saturday, Oct. 6
    Team Clemons – 2 vs. Big Monsters – 1
    Team Clemons earned their first win of the season against the Big Monsters. The Big Monsters rotated many players in the goalie position giving each player an opportunity to learn the position. Layne Baxter made three saves, Alex Young, Ethan Young and Ellie Anderson each had two  saves. Price Griffin scored the only goal for the Big Monsters.

  • Flying high

    The Owen County High School volleyball team began the season with three straight losses. They ended it with three straight wins.
    The Lady Rebels hope the momentum that comes with those wins helps them as they prepare for the 31st District Tournament that gets underway this week at Carroll County.
    Owen County finished out the regular season last week three matches at home.
    On Oct. 1, they hosted  Williamstown.
