  • Winningest Senior Class

Owen County High School Head Boys Basketball Coach Devin Duvall would like to congratulate this year’s senior players as the winningest senior class in OCHS boys basketball history. Duvall said over the course of the past four seasons, from left to right, players Jarrod Ball, Bradley Duvall, Trevor Lykins, Hunter Trenary and Tucker Trenary have been part of three consecutive 31st district championships, two Eighth Region All ‘A’ championships and two NCKC championships. The senior class combined for a record of 76 wins and 40 losses, Duvall said.

  • Lady Rebels step up to the plate

The Owen County High School softball team showed a great deal of promise in 2013. They are hoping to turn that promise into results in 2014.
The Lady Rebels finished 11-17 last season. That can be somewhat deceiving when you dig a little deeper.
Owen County scored 10 or more runs in five games last year and played competitively against one of the best teams in the Eighth Region.
Owen County won its opening round game of the 31st District tournament over Eminence High School before falling 8-7 to Gallatin County High School in the semifinals.

  • Rebels ready to repeat

With the baseball season scheduled to get underway this week, the Owen County High School Rebels are looking for many of the same results they found last season.
The team’s overall record may have been what they had hoped but don’t think the team did not have some success on the diamond.
While the Rebels finished 17-18 overall they won the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic and captured the 31st District title.

  • Boys hit the ground running

The 2014 Owen County High School track season is off and running.
On March 11, the boys’ team took part in the GOPW Gold Medal Meet at Walton-Verona. The Rebels had several outstanding performances including Michael Wash, who won the discus. Seth Shafer placed second; Andrew Banks, third; and Willie Johnson; sixth; in the same event.
Shafer would finish first in the shot put while David Lewis was second; Sammy Chapman.  fourth; and Jesse McCracken, sixth.

  • Season begins for Lady Rebel...

The Owen County High School girls track team started their season last week. The team took part in the GOPW Gold Medal Meet at Walton-Verona March 11.
The team had a solid meet with some top performers in several events.
Autumn Hunter won the 3200-meter run while Samantha Tamplin finished second. Nicole Jacobs won the 300-meter hurdles and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles.
Danielle Roetker placed second in 100-meter hurdles.

  • Rebels come up short in region...

For most of Thursday night’s Eighth Region quarterfinal game between Owen County and South Oldham high schools, it couldn’t have been much closer.
But in the end, it would be the Dragons who would come away with the 84-77 victory to end  the season for the Rebels.
Owen County took the early 2-0 before South Oldham would tie the score and then go in front 3-2 in the very early stages.
This wouldn’t be the only time the game would be tied or the lead would switch hands.

  • 3peat: Buzzer beater gives...

The Owen County High School Rebels got their third-straight 31st District title the old-fashioned way - they earned it.
The last time Owen County faced Henry County High School, the game went to overtime before the final outcome was decided.
It appeared Friday night’s game in Carrollton was headed for the same fate. That is until the Rebels got the final shot.
Facing a double digit fourth-quarter deficit, Henry County scratched and clawed its way all the way back and tied the game with 15 seconds to play.

  • Eight facts about the Boy’s...

    • The tournament will once again be played at Henry County High School. It has been played in New Castle every year since 1962. The last school to host besides Henry County was Shelby County in 1961.
    • The last time Owen County hosted the Eighth Region tournament was back in 1958.
    • South Oldham will enter the tournament as the defending champion. The Dragons defeated Oldham County 58-48 in last year’s championship game.
    • The last team to repeat as champions was Oldham County who won in both 2011 and 2012.

  • Lady Rebels keep streak alive as...

The season ended for the Owen County High School Lady Rebels but not before they kept an impressive streak alive.
Owen County opened up play last week in the 31st District tournament.
The Lady Rebels hadn’t lost their first game of the event since they joined the 31st District in 2005-2006.
The last time they did not win their opening round contest was back on March 3, 2005, when they lost to Scott County in the 32nd District tournament at Williamstown.

  • Young Rebels turn in strong...

The fourth-grade Rebels participated in the NCKC Tournament on Feb. 22 at Gallatin County. The team finished second overall. The Rebels defeated Carroll County and Grant County to reach the finals before falling to Walton-Verona.
