  • Season ends for volleyball squad

    The 2013 Owen County High School Lady Rebels volleyball season has ended.
    The season wrapped up Oct. 22 in Eminence when the team lost in the semifinals of the 31st District volleyball tournament.
    Owen County began the tournament by taking on Gallatin County High School in the opening round Oct. 21.

  • Cross-country team makes a run...

    The Owen County High School cross-country team took to the road Saturday for the Meet of Champions at Masterson Station Park in Lexington,
    Owen County’s Autumn Hunter placed sixth among freshmen and Audrey Hager came in 15th in the freshmen race.
    Cory Hudnall improved his season best time to 18:07 and Audrey Hager dropped 1:07 off her personal record.
    Owen County sixth graders Jalen Spaulding and Westley Johnson ended their first cross-country seasons strong in the sixth and under 3K race.

  • Panthers spoil Owen senior night

    For the Owen County High School seniors. it was not the way they wanted to go out.
    The Carroll County High School Panthers came to Owenton Friday night and spoiled Senior Night at Patterson Field.
    Despite two first-quarter turnovers, the Panthers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated Owen County High School 48-7.
    After going three and out on their opening drive, the Rebels were able to force and recover a Panther fumble on their first possession.

  • Rebel Ramblings: at Gallatin...

    • Gallatin County is 6-2 overall for the season. They are 3-0 in the district.
    • Tim Browning is in his eighth season as head coach. He is the only coach the Wildcats have had. During his tenure, the team is 40-43 overall.
    • Owen County won last year’s contest 59-22 in Owenton.
    • The Rebels are 5-2 all-time versus the Wildcats and have won the last four meetings.
    • Three of Gallatin County’s wins this year have been shutouts. They have blanked Ludlow, Atherton and Trimble County high schools.

  • Overtime unkind for Lady Rebels...

    Last season, the Owen County High School Lady Rebels soccer team won the 31st District title on an overtime goal.
    On Oct. 16,  it was an overtime goal that denied them the opportunity to defend their title.
    The Lady Rebels traveled to New Castle last week for their opening round game of the 31st District Tournament with Gallatin County High School.
    Owen County had already defeated the Lady Wildcats twice during the regular season in a pair of tightly contested games in which the Lady Rebels won 2-1 and 1-0.

  • Good day for cross-country in...

    The weather may not have been the best but the Owen County High School cross-country team had one of its best days of the season on Saturday.
    The team traveled to Lexington to take part in the Lexington Catholic Invitational. The course at the Kentucky Horse Park was muddy and slick but that did not stop Hunter Trenary from finishing second with a time of 16:11.
    Trenary finished ahead of the Nick Waltman from Sayre School in Lexington.
    Last year, Trenary finished in second behind Waltman in the Region 5 A meet.

  • Volleyball team ends season on a...

    The Owen County High School volleyball team finished the regular season last week with some positive momentum.
    Heading into the 31st District Tournament, the team won two of its final three matches.
    On Oct. 14, the Lady Rebels hosted Heritage Academy. It was the second time in less than a week the two teams had squared off.
    Much like the first meeting, Owen County would get the win as they defeated the Eagles 2-1. Heritage won the opening set 25-21 before the Lady Rebels bounced back and won the next two sets 25-14 and 25-15.

  • Semifinal exit for boys soccer

    The Owen County High School boys soccer team reached the 31st District finals last year where they eventually lost to Carroll County High School.
    A return trip was not in the cards this season.
    The Rebels had the difficult task of playing Henry County High School in the semifinals on Oct. 15 on their home field in New Castle.
    The Wildcats had knocked off the Rebels twice during the regular season both in shutout fashion.

  • Deer Season: Elise Guest

    Elise Guest, 10, took this four-point buck Oct. 12 during youth hunt weekend. She is the daughter of David and Nicole Guest.

    • Owen County High School defeated Carroll County High School 59-41 last year in Carrollton.
    • With the Rebels wins in 2011 and 2012, they have won back-to-back games in the series for the first time since 2000 and 2001.
    • OCHS Head Football Coach Adam Fowler is 3-2 all-time versus Carroll County.
    • Michael Weedman is in his seventh season as the Panthers’ head coach. In those seven seasons, he is 37-35 overall.
