The college basketball season is under way with two former Owen County High School standouts in the middle of it all. Sawyer Williams and Rianna Gayheart are both playing college basketball this fall and making history at the same time.  
Williams is at Morehead State University and Gayheart is playing at Northern Kentucky University. It marks the first time two Owen County High School graduates are playing Division I basketball at the same time.
Gayheart is the first former Lady Rebel to ever play Division I basketball.

They had their chances.
Turnovers and missed opportunities did in the Owen County High School Rebels  Friday night at Patterson Field. Three first-quarter miscues and several empty possessions led to a season-ending defeat to Holy Cross.
The Indians defeated the Rebels 42-32 in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
The game was a rematch of last year’s second-round game when Holy Cross came to Owenton and defeated Owen County 45-0 to end a perfect season. The Indians would go on to win the Class 2A state championship.

Several postseason honors have been given to Lady Rebel soccer players including an Owen County first.
Senior Andi Wash was named to the First Team All Eighth Region Team to make her the first Lady Rebel to be honored in that way. The team is selected by coaches from the Eight Region.
Seniors Ashley Byers and Morgan Walker were named honorable mention All Eighth  Region. It is the fourth year in a row the Lady Rebels have had players named to the squad.

Although they won’t take to the court for a regular season game until December, the Owen County High School Lady Rebels are hard at work practicing for the upcoming season.
