  • Girls finish fifth at region

    The Owen County High School girls had a good day at the Region 5A Track Meet in Danville. Four members of the team qualified for the KHSAA State Cross County Meet.
    Paula Rivera won the discus title after finishing second last year. She also placed second in the shot put after a ninth place finish in 2013.
    Rivera and the rest of the 4x100-meter relay team of Andi Burford, Haley Hatchett and Nicki Jacobs finished second. All four girls will be heading to the University of Kentucky on May 24 for the KHSAA State Cross County Meet.

    Allnut’s Pirates vs Dempsey’s Oreos
    The last game of the season was a rough one for the Pirates as they played the Oreos but they all played with lots of heart. Faith McFadden, Tyler Cammack, and Arisa Bays all had awesome moves on offense.
    Kairie Crowe and Clayton Allnutt showed off their defensive skills and came up with some big plays.
    Oreo’s Carson Carter made several great plays. In one, he turned the ball to set up his teammates for a chance to score a goal.

  • Rebels take second in meet

    The Owen County High School boys track team took part in the NCKC Meet April 22 in Carrollton. The Rebels finished second behind only Walton-Verona.
    In the 100-meter dash, Kyler Law and Drew Smith finished tied for sixth.
    Logan Bitler was eighth, Lucas Lyons, 11th; and Mariano Bolanos, 12th, in the 200-meter dash.
    Rhyan Hatchett was fifth in the 400-meter dash.
    In the 800-meter, it was Daniel Lopez, seventh; Kaleb Wilhoite, ninth; and Keith Stout, 10th.

  • Lady Rebels take third place at...

    The Owen County High School Lady Rebels traveled to Carrollton on April 22 for the NCKC Meet. The team finished third behind Walton-Verona and Henry County.
    Andi Burford won the 100-meter dash with Hailey Hatchett finishing in fifth place.
    Burford finished fourth; Sara Wilhoit, seventh: and Julie Herrman finished ninth in the 200-meter dash.
    Mikala Byers was sixth and Herrman seventh in the 400-meter dash.
    Autumn Hunter placed sixth in the 800-meter and fifth in the 1600-meter run.
    Samantha Tamplin was eighth in the 1600-meter.

  • Rebels win three

    The Owen County High School baseball team was busy last week. The team played six games picking up three wins.
    The week started April 21 with a game at Grant County. After winning three of their first four road games the Rebels had dropped five-straight games away from Owenton.
    They would break that streak in Dry Ridge by beating the Braves 8-4.
    Owen County would return home on April 22 to play Carroll County and Eminence on back-to-back days at Dunavent Field.
    Against Carroll County, the Panthers would leave town with a 9-6 victory.

  • Lady Rebels grab pair of...

    The Owen County High School softball team began the week with an easy win before ending it on the other side of the scoreboard.
    On April 21, the Lady Rebels hosted Grant County High School.
    The team would have its best offensive output on the season as they defeated the Lady Braves 11-1. The previous high for runs had been four in a loss to Walton-Verona.
    The next two outings would not be as much fun as the team dropped a 6-0 contest at Trimble County and 4-1 at Carroll County.

  • Jarrod Ball commits to...

    Owen County High School senior Jarrod Ball signed a letter of intent last week to play college baseball. As it turns out, Ball will be trading in one maroon hat for another as he will take his talents to Campbellsville.
    Tigers head coach Beauford Sanders was in Owenton on April 22 as Ball signed his letter. Beauford is in his 24th season as head coach.
    As of Sunday, the Tigers are 14-12 on the season.

  • Owen County Youth Soccer League...

    Allnutt’s Blue Pirates vs. Stamper’s Little Monsters
    The Pirates did a fantastic job at their game Saturday.  Faith McFadden scored big with three goals and Kairie Crowe celebrated by getting a goal of her own. The Little Monsters played tough and brought their A-game and were lead by Callie Fitzgerald and Trevor Weinberg  along with Zack Wright. Newcomers Leland Carrier and Jake Caldwell joined together offensively and defensively to make for a great game.

  • Baseball team picks up win over...

    The Owen County High School baseball team picked up a win last week.
    The Rebels played three straight games last week dropping the first, winning the second and falling in the third.
    The first game came on the road April 16 at Anderson County. Owen County was no match for the Bearcats who won the game 10-0. It was the first time the two teams had met since May 2012 when Anderson County knocked off Owen County 2-1 in the opening round of the Eighth Region Tournament.
    On April 17, the Rebels hosted Trimble County.

  • Girls track team finishes second

    The Owen County High School girls track team finished second on Friday night at the Grant County Invitational. The team finished behind Boone County and ahead of Dayton which finished third.
    Nicole Jacobs finished fifth in the 100-meter dash while Andi Burford was fourth and Sara Wilhoit came in 15th in the 200-meter dash.
    Veronica Chisholm was sixth and Mikala Byers seventh in the 400-meter dash. Autumn Hunter placed fifth in the 800-meter run.
    Hunter was also fourth in the 1600-meter run with Samantha Tamplin coming seventh place.
