  • Braves run past Rebels, 60-7

    As quickly as momentum was on Owen County’s side Friday night in Dry Ridge, it was gone.
    After falling behind 14-0 in the opening quarter against Grant County High School, the Rebels seemed to have turned the tide in their favor.
    On the first play of the second quarter, Elijah Hafley picked off a Braves’ pass and returned it to the Owen County 49-yard line.

  • Tough week for OCHS girls soccer...

    The last few days have not been ones to remember for the Owen County High School girls soccer team.
    The team began the week Aug. 25 in Shelbyville against Shelby County High School. The Lady Rockets defeated the Lady Rebels 6-0.
    Owen County played its first home game of the season on Aug. 27 when they hosted Franklin County High School. The Lady Rebels would find themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard as they fell 5-1.

  • Volleyball team falls twice

    The Owen County High School volleyball team played a pair of competitive matches last week. Unfortunately, they came up just short in both.
    The week began with a road match at Grant County High School. After the Lady Braves won the opening game of the match 25-22, the Lady Rebels came back to even things up with a 25-23 win in game two. Grant County regained control of the match in the third game with a 25-12 win. Game four was tight throughout but the Lady Braves came out on top 25-22.

  • Rebels prepare for All ‘A’

    As the Owen County High School boys soccer team gets ready for the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic this week, they will be looking for better results than the tournament they just finished.
    The Rebels spent last week traveling back and forth between Owenton and Frankfort where they took part in the Frankfort Rotary Capital City Classic. They played three games in the event and dropped all three in shutout fashion.
    They lost to Franklin County on Tuesday, Western Hills on Thursday and Frankfort on Saturday.

  • Hot streak continues for MBMS...

    The last week of August found the MBMS Lady Rebels Volleyball Team on the road.
    The Lady Rebels traveled to Gallatin Aug. 26 where the sixth-grade and eight-grade teams swept the Lady Cats in two-set matches.
    On Aug. 27, the Lady Rebels traveled to Williamstown and faced the Lady Demons.
    The eight-grade team (6-0) captured the first set but dropped the second. The Lady Rebels rallied to defeat the Lady Demons and held onto the winning streak.

  • MBMS volleyball team opens...

    The MBMS volleyball team opened its season strong.
    The Lady Rebel’s eighth-grade team attended the Bluegrass Games in Lexington for some preseason action where they faced some of Lexington’s top middle-school teams.
    After falling to Tates Creek, Southern and Jesse Clark middle schools, the Lady Rebels rallied to defeat Bondurant of Frankfort to take third in the bronze division.
    With the season opener on the road with Walton-Verona, the Lady Rebels brought home wins for both the seventh and eighth-grade teams.

  • Lady Rebels soccer return on the...

    The beginning of the soccer season meant a pair of road games for the Lady Rebels.
    The first came Aug. 18 at Grant County. The Lady Braves stymied the Lady Rebels’ offense on their way to a 5-0 victory.  It was the second year in a row Grant County has shutout Owen County. They won 3-0 last season.
    On Aug. 20, the team traveled to Covington Latin. Amber Gover and Mikala Byers each had goals while Shelby Sawyer had an assist as the Lady Rebels came back home with a 2-2 tie.

  • Owen volleyball team comes in...

    The Owen County High School volleyball team opened up the 2014 season last week against some stiff competition.
    The Lady Rebels played at Franklin County High School Aug. 18 and then hosted Walton-Verona on Aug. 20.
    The Lady Flyers finished 20-14 last season and reached the semifinals of the 11th Region Tournament.
    The Bearcats also won 20 matches a year ago and reached the Eighth Region Tournament but fell in the opening round to Eminence High School.

  • Rebel Ramblings

    • The Braves defeated the Rebels 35-10 last year in Dry Ridge.
    • The last time Owen County hosted Grant County at Patterson Field was on Sept. 14, 2007.
    • This will be the 10th straight year the two schools have met on the gridiron. Before then their previous meeting was on Sept. 11, 1998.
    • OCHS Head Football Coach Adam Fowler is 3-3 against Grant County.
    • GCHS Head Football Coach Kevin Siple is in his third season at the helm.
    • Grant County finished 1-9 last season.
