It will be a weekend to remember on Jan. 22 and 23 at the Owen County High School.

On Friday night the Owen County Athletic Department will be inducting its second class into the Athletic Hall of Fame. This year’s class includes Jim Glass, Guy Patterson, Curt Cochran, C.W. Ware and Dustin Downey.

The evening begins with the Lady Rebels taking on Gallatin County at 6 p.m. The induction ceremony will take place following the girls game before the Rebels take on the Wildcats.

  • Rebels enter 2016 undefeated in...

It was business as usual last Tuesday night for the Owen County Rebels.

The last time the Rebels lost a game within the 31st District was on January 27, 2014. Ironically, that loss came in Eminence. It was not to the Warriors, but rather to Carroll County in the championship game of the 8th Region All ‘A’ Classic.

  • Lady Rebels finish third in...

The Owen County Lady Rebels did not have much time for holiday returns following Christmas. Just days after Christmas, the team traveled to Frankfort to take part in the Capital City Holiday Classic on Dec. 29 and 30.

On Tuesday the team took on South Oldham in the first game of the tournament. Owen County led 30-22 at the half on their way to a 57-45 win over the Lady Dragons. The win was the first for Owen County over South Oldham since Dec. 29, 2009 when they won 42-32 at Western Hills.

  • Lady Rebels dominate with win...

The Owen County Lady Rebels gave their coach an early Christmas present last Tuesday night. The team easily defeated Bellevue 60-27 in Owenton.

Alex Clifton scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Owen County dominated the visitors on Tuesday night to pick up their third straight win after dropping five in a row. The win sent the Lady Rebels into a Christmas break with a record of 4-5 overall.

  • Rebels win two, but fall to...

If the Owen County Rebels did not already know it, they learned last week that they can compete with the best teams across Kentucky.

The team took on Fairdale in the first game of the consolation bracket last Monday. The Rebels led 29-21 at intermission and extended the lead to 50-36 at the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs would rally in the fourth quarter, but the Rebels would hang on to win 63-56.

In a big time game against a big-time opponent the Owen County Rebels came up just short.

The Rebels and their fans traveled to Louisville on Friday night to take part in the King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic. Their first opponent in this most prestigious event was the Trinity Shamrocks. Both teams came into the contest ranked in the top 10 in the state.

The Lady Rebels needed things to go their way.

The team had dropped four games in a row after winning the season opener at Eminence. Each game was close with their largest margin of defeat being a seven-point setback on the road at Switzerland County.

All wins are good. Some wins are great. The Rebels enjoyed both last week.

Owen County opened play last week against Trimble County in Bedford. It proved to be not much of a contest as the Rebels shot 55 percent from the field and drained 13 3-pointers in a dominating 82-41 win over the Raiders.

After an easy win to open the season the Owen County Lady Rebels have experienced four straight close losses. The latest two came last week at Switzerland County and Carroll County.

The team crossed Markland Dam into the Hoosier State on their way to Vevay to take on Switzerland County last Tuesday night. This is the fifth straight season the two teams have faced each other early in the year. Heading into last week’s contest the two teams had split the previous four match ups.

Each of the Rebels first two games of this young season were decided well before the final buzzer. In their third, however they needed all 32 minutes and then some to reach an outcome.

The Rebels opened the season last Tuesday night on the road in Frankfort against Western Hills. This year marked the eighth straight season the Rebels have faced the Wolverines in the season opener. After losing the first three, Owen County has reeled off four straight victories in the series.
