  • Owen County Youth Soccer League...

    HotShots - 4 vs. Team Clemons - 2
    The HotShots had a great regular season with a record of five wins, one loss and two ties entering U8 Tournament play.
    The HotShots opened up the tournament with a 4 to 2 win over Team Clemons.
    Price Griffin scored on the opening kick-off with an assist from Blaine Spencer. With an assist from Eli Myers, Price Griffin scored a second goal in the first quarter.
    Eli Myers scored in the third quarter following a Team Clemons score to make the score 3 to 1.

  • Owen County is home to new state...

    Owen County has a new state champion.
    Members of the Owen County track teams headed to Louisville early Saturday morning to take part in the KHSAA Class A State Track Meet.
    For one member of the team, it wasn’t enough to just win a state title. He also set a new state record.
    Owen County High School senior Collin Trammel captured the title in the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.92 seconds.
    He beat the record of 22 seconds set last year by Andre Klaassen from Whitefield Academy.

  • Big year at MBMS

    Mission accomplished.
    The Maurice Bowling Middle School girls soccer team set a goal at the beginning of the season.
    This year marked the first season for the North Central Kentucky Soccer Conference and they wanted to be the first team to claim the title.
    MBMS Girls Soccer Coach Scotty Chappell said he challenged the players to win.
    “I told the girls at the start of the season they could win this conference and hang a conference championship banner in the gym,” Chappell said.

  • Rebels finish regular season

    The Owen County High School baseball season wrapped up the regular season last week.
    The Rebels were hoping to finish the season on a high note heading into the 31st District Tournament this week.
    Instead, the team dropped four of five games.
    The week began with a pair of games May 13 against Gallatin County and Carroll County.
    The Wildcats edged the Rebels 5-4 in the NCKC Tournament before the Panthers shutout Owen County 9-0.

  • Lady Rebels compete in district...

    The Owen County High School softball team ended the regular season in style last week.
    After dropping a 9-3 decision to Shelby County to open the week, the team rebounded by defeating Trimble County 2-0 may 15 to close out the regular season.
    The win was the second over the Lady Raiders this year.
    Monday, the team began play in the 31st District Tournament at Henry County.
    The girls took on Eminence in the opening round Monday night.
    The Lady Rebels crushed the Lady Warriors 17-1 in three innings.

  • Neeley takes talent to...

    Hannah Neeley ended her career at Owen County High School in March. She will begin a new career this fall in Lexington.
    On Thursday, the senior signed a letter of intent to play college basketball at Transylvania University.
    Neeley scored 1,347 points in her career and help lead the Lady Rebels to three straight 31st District titles during her four years. She and the team also reached the Eighth Region semifinals twice during her career and had a total of 72 victories.

  • Track team grabs second finish...

    It was a good day at the Class A Region 5 Meet for the Owen County High School boys track team.
    After a third-place finish a year ago the team put together a great day and came home with a second-place finish. The only team better was Burgin.
    Several Rebels had outstanding days including Collin Trammel who won his second-straight regional title in the 200-meter dash.
    Trammel, along with Paul Banks, Ian Oaks and Chris Smith, made up the 4x200-meter relay team which finished first.
    The same four also placed second in the 4x100-meter relay.

  • Rebel losing streak is over

    There are some streaks teams want to end - namely losing streaks.
    The Owen County High School baseball team ended such a streak last week when they hosted Walton-Verona at Dunavent Field.
    The Rebels had dropped eight-straight contests while Walton-Verona entered the game having won four in a row. One of the games in the middle of both streaks was a Bearcat 13-7 win over the Rebels on  April 30 in Verona.
    Owen County would get a measure of revenge as they defeated the visitors 5-3 to improve its record to 14-13 on the season.

  • Softball team back on track

    A week that began on a sour note finished strong for the Owen County High School softball team.
    The Lady Rebels lost their first two games of the week before finishing with wins on Thursday and Saturday.
    On May 7, the team traveled to take on Walton-Verona. The Lady Bearcats would score in every inning but the fourth and limit the Lady Rebels to just three hits in the Walton-Verona 7-0 victory. It was the third time this season Owen County has been shutout.
