The Owen County High School Agricultural Department may be growing.
The members of the Owen County Board of Education discussed the future of 111 acres of farmland the district owns.
Owen County School District Director of Maintenance Dan Logan said some members of the high school faculty want to expand the agriculture opportunities.
“The agriculture department here wants to try to expand and develop an agricultural research farm,” Logan said.

It’s the end of an era for the Owen County School District.
After serving as an educator and principal for 43 years, Maurice Bowling Middle School Principal Jo Ella Wallace’s retirement will become effective when her contract ends June 30.
Wallace arrived in Owen County in 1970, when she was hired on as Owen County High’s health and physical education teacher.
In the summer of ‘70, Wallace said there were two physical education positions open in the district, including one at the soon to be opened Owen County Elementary School.

The winners of the first annual Queens for a Life Pageant, held this weekend as a fund raiser for the Owen County Relay for Life include Maison Hedger,  Railey Varner, Autumn Fryman, Veronica Chisholm, Carla Carfora, Danielle Hoop, Taylor Wilhoite and Yolanda Gould. The event was one of the precursors to this weekend’s Owen County Relay for Life

“If they want to be destructive, they shouldn’t take it out on the youth of Owen County.”
Owen County Parks and Recreaction Director Buck Beverly left the park for a short time on Monday afternoon and when he returned a short time later, he saw what he called “senseless destruction.”
Two youth baseball fields, commonly referred to as the “small T-ball fields” were left unable to be played on after someone did “donuts” in the outfield and drove through the middle of the infield.
