Bowling tapped to lead Owen School Board
The Owen County Board of Education has a new chairman following the resignation of Brian Young.
Young announced his resignation to Owen County School District Superintendent David Raleigh and other board members Feb. 28. His resignation was immediately effective.
In a meeting held March 12, board member Dr. Larry Johnson nominated Stuart Bowling for the board’s chairperson, citing Bowling’s seniority on the board as one reason for the nomination.
Welcome to Spring. I know it’s spring because The Talking Head on TV said so this morning. I went down and built up the fire in the wood stove in the basement anyway. I’ll let it go out by noon, but when the basement is warm, it makes the rest of the house easier to heat. Hopefully, this well is the last fire of the season.
I am writing on behalf of the Owen County Drug Prevention Coalition. The coalition is one of many counterparts that form the Hope’s Hands Collaborative. After receiving the Drug Free Communities grant, the coalition developed specific strategies to focus on youth drug prevention.
In the first year, the coalition proposes to increase membership of the coalition, provide training to members and target underage alcohol and tobacco use in Owen County.

“A considerable number of artifacts have been found in Owen County, some of which are to be seen in local collections. Mr. W.O. Lowdenback of Pleasant Home had such a collection and good material has been found in the neighborhood of Gratz on the Kentucky River.”
