  • Letter to the editor: Threlkeld will make excellent judge for Owen

I am William Ford Threlkeld, the proud father of John Brent Threlkeld. My son is seeking to serve as our next circuit judge in the 15th judicial circuit that includes Carroll, Grant and Owen counties.
I opened my law practice in 1949 and I retired in 2010. I practiced law in front of many judges you may have known - Ward Yager, Jim Ford, Charles Satterwhite and our current judge Stephen Bates - as well as countless other state and federal judges.

I would like to officially ask for your vote and support in the upcoming primary election. I am seeking the office of county clerk. My name is Kimberly “Kim” Smith. • Ryan Quarles: New budget includes teacher, state pay hikes

This past Monday, I was proud to vote for a responsible biennial budget which includes higher funding for Owen County schools and pay increases for our hard working state employees as well as our teachers.
As the 2014 General Assembly winds down, the budget process yielded a two year plan that raises the K-12 education SEEK base from $3,827 to $3,981 by 2016.  The budget also provides funds to increase internet bandwidth and school safety.

  • Letter to the editor: Dedication to community appreciated

I would like to thank Tammy Bishop, Charlie Ellis and Carrol Ellis for their service to help the people of Owen County who are going to doctor appointments or the hospital.
Their Christian love and kindness and prayers are awesome.
They go above and beyond to help others.
I feel so blessed and I’m very thankful to all who are involved in this service. They are always on time and Tammy always calls the night before to remind you!
May we keep them in our prayers and thoughts and may God bless you.

  • Letter to the editor: Alcorn shares our values

I just want to start out saying that our family follows all political aspects within Owen County. We have yet, but one, candidate that has cared enough to show up and share his views and outlooks for our county.
This man is Gary Alcorn. I see how he enjoys meeting new individuals and sharing why he should be sheriff of Owen County.
There are numerous signs of different candidates that have been through my residence and I feel that unless I meet and hear their values and outlook for our county, I may just be voting for one candidate, and that is Gary Alcorn.
