    We have come to the time in our society where there are no longer any absolutes.
    With that being said, our (U.S. Supreme Court) justices are preparing to address the issue of same-sex marriage.
    We already have some states that recognize the same-sex union with all the benefits that is common with traditional marriage.

  • I’m just saying ... Not exactly a lazy holiday at my house


    This was supposed to be the Thanksgiving I got a break.
    This was supposed to be the first time in decades that I sat back and let Thanksgiving come to me instead of me packing up and hitting the highway for dinner with my family.
    My oldest nephew, who is stationed in Afghanistan, is home on leave and requested that Thanksgiving be held at our house instead of Corbin or London where most of my wife’s family is from.

  • Letter to the editor: Mayor calls on public for improvement ideas

    I would like to commend Debbie Sigretto for remodeling the front of her building where the clothing center and Spurgeon Law Firm are located. It looks much better and makes the town more attractive. Cassie Towles recently remodeled the front of her building at the corner of West Seminary and South Main with new windows, a front door and fresh paint.

  • Letter to the editor: Owen County is better because of adult education

    After reading the article in the paper last week, I decided I needed to write something to talk about how much the Adult Learning Center has meant to me and my family.
    A few years ago, I went to the Adult Learning Center wanting to get my GED but feeling like I probably couldn’t do it.
    When I went in there, the staff was so positive and made me feel like it was possible. To make a long story short, working with the adult-education staff, I did get my GED and I am now in college at NKU.

  • I’m just saying ... Disney owns my childhood

    The ways things are going, in the next few years, the Disney company is going to own the rights to my mom and dad, the Evel Knievel bike I got for my 11th birthday and my aunt’s favorite fishing hole down by the dam beside her old house outside of Sadieville.
    A few years ago, Disney bought Marvel Comics and got the rights to all their characters. Although some film studios retained the rights to make movies from some of the characters, eventually Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man and all the rest will become “Disney-fied.”

  • Letter to the editor: Hospice is a place of love and caring

    For the past 10 years I have been privileged to work as a community liaison physician with Hospice of the Bluegrass. I have been witness to the wonderful services they provide to our community. November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.
    No one likes to think about death and dying, but Hospice is a resource available in our community to provide comfort, dignity and respect to families coping with a loved onea with a serious or life-ending illness.

    Editor’s Note: Veterans Day is an appropriate time for us to recall the sacrifices made by those serving and who had served in our armed forces. To mark this occasion, the Ernie Pyle World War II Museum in Dana, Indiana, and Scripps Howard Foundation have allowed us to reprint of Pyle’s most famous column “The Death of Capt. Waskow.” It’s a reminder to all of the ultimate sacrifice made by so many Americans to maintain the freedoms we enjoy.
