  • Leadership Owen County

The Leadership Owen County 2010 Team continued our tour of the community May 5.

  • Letter to the editor: Sacrifices of veterans should be remembered

It’s me again, Margaret A. Murphy.

Enthusiasm for the New Liberty Archives with a family research center and the vision for tourism is on the increase within the minds of our people of Owen County. Discussion and your thoughts revealed is good.

Now, let’s consider adding a veterans memorial – a notable and enduring memory of their service for our country at the same location.

  • Letter to the editor: School staff deserve recognition for efforts

Although I was unable to attend the (May 10) board meeting, I would like to thank all the parents who did attend. I also want to thank the board members for all their hard work during this time and commend them for asking the right questions. I think that the large parent presence was very encouraging to the staff, and at this point encouraging the staff should be our main concern. Budget cuts are an unavoidable reality and they are everywhere; however, if the cuts are handled correctly our kids will not suffer.

  • Letter to the editor: District should follow the meetings law

While I knew that Mr. Cleveland would have a rebuttal to my recent letter the editor, I do wish he had stuck to the truth. He knows exactly why I did not leave. The purpose of my speaking with Ms. Miller was to explain the law behind the request for the information. I’m not a legal expert, but I can read. Yes, I did have the requested documents in hand that morning, but it was a day late and a dollar short so to speak. I had requested them the day before as the law provides and was refused and told to return the following morning. That is why I was there.

  • Letter to the editor: Relay for Life, new center brings hope to cancer patients

Relay time is right around the corner. It will be held May 28 and 29 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the Owen County Park. As a county, we have so much to celebrate. We have more teams than ever, fund-raising is better than ever and most importantly we just opened the Owen County Cancer Resource Center Sunday.

  • Letter to the editor: Old people have feelings too

Before I write this letter I want to make a statement.

This letter is not written with malice or hard feelings. I want to say something I have witnessed quite often in the last few years.

A lot of people seem to think that old people have no feelings. An incident that happened recently prompted me to write and say what I have on my mind – and you who know me know I say what I think.

I have been in the Ogden family more than 65 years, and to my knowledge, this is the first election in those years that an Ogden hasn’t worked the polls.

  • Historical Society News By Bonnie Strassell

Owen countians may not realize it, but as they visit with friends and reminisce about the “good ole days,” or gather with relatives on holidays to celebrate family traditions, they preserve their heritage and the history of Owen County. This is most evident on Memorial Day when streets and dirt roads in the county are lined with cars, filled with people who carry flowers, crosses, and other items to place on the graves of loved ones who served their country in the armed services.

  • Letter to the editor: Keith will provide leadership

There are some nasty rumors running around Owen County which are so untrue about Carolyn Keith. I hate it when dirty politics come into play but I guess that is how some candidates “toot their horn” thinking this will harm Mrs. Keith’s chance for re-election. Well … think again.
