  • Letter to the editor: Churches must get involved in 'battle'

    I would like to respond to Bro. Tom Hall’s editorial of Dec. 12, 2012.
    Tom, thank you for your wonderful editorial which exposed the terrible sin of sodomy. As you stated, Christians and the churches need to get involved in the battle. The greatness and stability of America began with the Pilgrim separatists and the Puritans. These Christians were committed to establishing the kingdom of Jesus Christ on the Earth.

  • Letter to the editor: Everyone benefits from shopping locally

    How great would be to have a Walmart in Owen County so you can get everything you need for the upcoming holiday with ease?
    Sadly, we don’t have one of those but what we do have is a chain of local businesses that may be able to provide us with things that are on our grocery lists. The nearest Walmart is located in Dry Ridge and that’s a lot of wasted gas money just to go and buy needed supplies.

  • Letter to the editor: Keep your lights on to raise awareness of dangers

    Lights On For Life Day is a symbolic observance designed to focus attention on the issue of impaired driving. So let’s stop this violent and deadly crime of impaired driving. Nearly 12,000 people die every year in alcohol- and drug-related crashes: one person dead every two minutes.
    How about this holiday season we join together and take a stand against drunken driving?
    On Dec. 31, keep your lights on your vehicle, homes and businesses and choose to not to drink and drive.

  • Letter to the editor: Make sure to support local businesses because they support us

    I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to the local businesses who are spreading the Christmas cheer for the children in our community. My 3-year-old son Mason and I had a great weekend visiting Santa all over town. We saw Santa three different times at three different businesses for free, not to mention that he sat on his lap at the Christmas parade last weekend too.

  • Letter to the editor: Same-sex marriages are a travesty against God

    We have come to the time in our society where there are no longer any absolutes.
    With that being said, our (U.S. Supreme Court) justices are preparing to address the issue of same-sex marriage.
    We already have some states that recognize the same-sex union with all the benefits that is common with traditional marriage.

  • Letter to the editor: Mayor calls on public for improvement ideas

    I would like to commend Debbie Sigretto for remodeling the front of her building where the clothing center and Spurgeon Law Firm are located. It looks much better and makes the town more attractive. Cassie Towles recently remodeled the front of her building at the corner of West Seminary and South Main with new windows, a front door and fresh paint.

  • Letter to the editor: Owen County is better because of adult education

    After reading the article in the paper last week, I decided I needed to write something to talk about how much the Adult Learning Center has meant to me and my family.
    A few years ago, I went to the Adult Learning Center wanting to get my GED but feeling like I probably couldn’t do it.
    When I went in there, the staff was so positive and made me feel like it was possible. To make a long story short, working with the adult-education staff, I did get my GED and I am now in college at NKU.

  • Letter to the editor: Hospice is a place of love and caring

    For the past 10 years I have been privileged to work as a community liaison physician with Hospice of the Bluegrass. I have been witness to the wonderful services they provide to our community. November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.
    No one likes to think about death and dying, but Hospice is a resource available in our community to provide comfort, dignity and respect to families coping with a loved onea with a serious or life-ending illness.

  • Letter to the editor: Adkins will be a strong, pragmatic advocate for Owen County

    Owen countians face an interesting choice on the ballot this November in the race for their congressional representative. There are several pertinent facts they need to consider. First, there is no incumbent since the Republican Geoff Davis resigned so suddenly and mysteriously from his seat. Second, this race has seen a huge influx of outside influence, in the form of money from a Texas millionaire (through inheritance) and college student, John Ramsey and his Liberty For All PAC. The money went solely to support one fringe candidate in the Republican primary.
