  • The ending is the beginning of the ‘saga thus far’

    When I first started writing professionally, I mostly wrote humor stories for Christian magazines.
    It was fun, and I often cracked myself up. But it was also hard work. With humor, you have to get the rhythm right. You have to choose your words carefully and economically.
    And you have to know the ending, the punchline, often before you write your opening line.
    With humor, you write to the punchline. It’s all about how you end.

    New Columbus Baptist set to host Holiday Craft Bazaar

    The New Columbus Baptist Church WMU and the Crafters Group will host a Holiday Craft Bazaar and Bake Sale from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, in the fellowship hall of New Columbus Baptist Church, Corinth. The proceeds are slated for the support of the church youth camp fund. This event can be a great time to do some Christmas shopping and get baked goodies at the same time.

  • Vision of cemetery preservation growing

    It sits alongside Squiresville Road on Gary Minch’s farm, but over the years, weeds and tangled vines have proclaimed victory as they sought to deny its existence. It is sheltered by a rock wall which seems to stand in defiance of the elements as it struggles to protect narratives of the past.
    At one time, hundreds of these dotted the landscape of Owen but today, many have lost their identity, and their stories have been silenced.

  • College basketball season is upon us

    Friday John came down and cleaned out the chimney and put new piping on the wood stove to get it ready for the cold weather to come.
    Saturday we went to Ann’s to split wood that John had dropped and cut up and hauled it to my house and stacked it on the back porch. After he left, I mowed the yard for the last time this season. I am now ready to start a fire when the weather gets colder.
