  • Owen girls run strong at Walton

    The Owen County High School girls track team spent its Saturday at Walton-Verona taking part in the Light the Night Meet.
    In the 100-meter dash, Emily Allen finished14th and Andi Burford came in 17th. Emily Bibb placed 19th in the 200-meter dash with Ashley Williams placing 22nd.
    Mikala Byers placed 27th in the 800 meter run. Nicole Jacobs and Paula Rivera finished 17th and 19th in the 100 meter hurdles. The two finished 16th and 17th in the 300 meter hurdles.

  • Boys finish fourth over weekend

    The Owen County High School boys track team is off to a good start. The team took part in the Light the Night Meet at Walton-Verona Saturday where they finished fourth.
    In the 100-meter dash, it was Paul Banks finishing second and Cory Cannon 20th.
    Bobby Mingie placed second in the 200-meter dash with Chris Smith in 17th place.
    Will Dempsey and Ben Allen finished 14th and 26th in the 400-meter dash while Cody Gray and Logan Bitler placed 19th and 22nd in the 800-meter run.

  • John Guill Chapter of DAR explores Kentucky history

    The John Guill Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, held its March meeting at the Owen County Library March 7 with guests from the Susannah Hart Shelby Chapter, NSDAR of Frankfort.  
    Our guest speaker Bonnie Strassell of Poplar Grove, a storyteller who has portrayed many women in history, brought to life Rebecca Boone, an American pioneer and wife of Daniel Boone, the famous frontiersman who led many hunters and settlers into Kentucky.

  • Birth announcement: Joseph Conner Hall

    Joseph Conner Hall, the son of Joe Hall and Stephanie England of Owenton, was born March 9, 2012 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. He weighed 5 lbs., 3 ounces and was 18 inches long.

  • Birth announcement: Kinley Brooke Bartram

    Kinley Brooke Bartram was born Jan. 7, 2012, at 1:43 p.m. in the Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.
    She was 8 lbs, 4 ounces and 21 inches long. She is the daughter of Jackie and Ashley Bartram of Wheatley.
    She is welcomed to the world by her brother Jaden, 5; her maternal grandparents Butch and Rena Kendall of Wheatley; her paternal grandparents Lee and Terry Bartram and the late Debbie Bartram of Sparta; her great-grandparents, Arthur and Orithia Hamilton, Jack Ogden, Shirley Baker, and Georgia Bartram.

    Meeting the Needs Ministry has moved
    The office is now located at the El Bethel Christian Church parsonage at 3365 Georgetown Road.  
    The hours of operation are the same: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m.

    Owen Fiscal Court and Owen County Ambulance vs. Archie W. Blackburn, defendant failed to to appear in Owen District Court on June 24, 2011 for answer to interrogatories, $100 cash bond set, released.
    Archie W. Blackburn, 1954, contempt of court, in jail, $500 cash bond set, released.
    James Lee Collins, 1980, theft by unlawful taking, pleaded guilty, 180 days, to serve four, credit time served, court costs.

  • A remarkable anniversary

    It all started with a phone call.
    On Jan. 11, 2011, a phone call was received at the Owen County High School. The caller was searching for family members of Robert (Bobby) Osborne. The schools seemed like a logical place to start.
    The caller, Mike Harris, was looking for Bobby Osborne, the son of Porter and Christine Osborne.
    After a conversation, an email outlining Harris’ request was sent to the staff, teachers and administrators of the Owen County School District to see if anyone knew Bobby Osborne and that someone was seeking this information.
