  • Sawyer Quinn Duvall - Birth Announcement

    Sawyer Quinn Duvall was born at 7:53 p.m. April 8, 2011, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
    He weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19-inches long.
    He is the son of Dustin and Brittany Duvall of Harrordsburg.
    He is welcomed to the world by his maternal grandparents, Rickey and Sherrie Hall of Lawrenceburg; and his paternal grandparents, Libby Duvall and Donnie and Regina Duvall, all of Owenton.
    He is the great-grandson of Ethel Hammond and the late Albert Hammond Jr.; and Don and Florence Cook.


  • Monterey Matters: Spring means time to fix up the house

    After having a few estimates recently on some new vinyl siding, I have decided to just paint my house for now.
    Several people had mentioned this method to me but I was a little skeptical about it.
    This will save me a whole lot of money for other things that I also need right now, like new landscaping and gravel.
    My good friend Shane Powell stopped by last week and asked me why I was even considering vinyl.
    He said he could paint it for now and make it look like brand new and save me some money, too.

    Weather seems to be all the news this week — wind, rain and more wind and rain. I poured 3 1/2 inches out of the rain gauge Thursday and another 1 1/2  was there Saturday morning.

    John M. Daugherty, 1962, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, pleaded not guilty, preliminary hearing set for April 21.
    James H. Ferrell, 1979, theft by unlawful taking, pleaded not guilty, continued to April 29.
    Christopher W. Lautz, 1984, first-degree attempted rape, falsely reporting an incident, alcohol intoxication in a public place, failure to notify address change to Department of Transportation, pleaded guilty, preliminary hearing set for April 29.

  • Get ready to celebrate Arbor Day

    This Friday is Good Friday and Earth Day so we should all be in a good frame of mind to do our part to improve the world. Next Friday we can put it to good use and plant some trees in celebration of Arbor Day. Surely we can top the first Arbor Day in 1872 when it was estimated that 1 million trees were planted in Nebraska alone.

  • Three Rivers announces news rules for WIC

    Effective April 1, the guidelines for determining income eligibility for the food supplement program, commonly known as WIC, were increased. The increase will make more families eligible for services.
    WIC provides:
    • Nutrition education and limited health screenings
    • Breast-feeding promotion and education
    • Monthly vouchers for nutritious food
    • Referrals to other needed health care services
    Services are provided for:
    • Pregnant women
    • Breast-feeding women
